programs in background?

i`m running a fairly quick system

epox 8rda+
athlon 2700 xp+
1gb twinmoss 3200
radeon 9700 pro

but when running monster 3d progs ocasionally get instability.
what i`m looking for is a proggy that shuts down all the unnecessasary background programmes in 1 safe and easy action without having to open task manager and think .......errr.............can i close this 1 etc etc.
i know there is such a programme but can`t remember what to look for

any help appreciated or maybe an alternative

when do they get instable?
what happens?

it would be useful to have task manager running to see if ur comp is using up all its ram - probably not.
or if cpu usage is 100% - possible
and which prog is causing the high cpu usage

i think with these progs - depending on what you are doing - will use up everything you have. i reckon u would need a multi processor board to make it smooth

off topic - IMHO 3dsm renders a LOT faster then cinema - what do u think?
