3 year sentence for killing family

Lorry driver Paulo Jorge Nogueira da Silva, 46, was jailed for three years for causing the deaths of the Statham family by careless driving.

He was cleared of dangerous driving.

David and Michelle Statham and their four children, from Llandudno, Conwy, were killed in their people carrier.

Mrs Statham's father Peter Hagans called the trial "a circus".

At a news conference after the verdict at Chester Crown Court, Mr Hagans said: "I think, from the night of the accident, when Mr Da Silva butchered our family, which I believe he did, it was not possible for us to get justice in any British court......

What the **** is wrong with our justice system!

They just broadcast on the national bbc news that the lorry driver was checking his route on a laptop. The jury voted 11-1 to convict him of 6 counts of dangerous driving (one for each family member killed), yet the judge still failed to give him the sentence he deserved.

His reason was, a sentence longer than 3 years, would not bring back/compensate for the lives lost.

So if his way is right, lets just give all murder/manslaughter cases 2 days in jail, because at the end of the day... hell its not going to bring the dead back, so why bother?
