for all those in the UK who like to collect swords.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7331099.stm

Ban on samurai swords becomes law

Legislation against selling, making, hiring or importing samurai swords in England and Wales has come into force.

Those breaking the law face six months in jail and a £5,000 fine. Carrying a sword in public is already illegal.

Exemptions will cover swords which are used for re-enactments or antique weapons kept on display by collectors.

Eight years ago a councillor was killed by a man wielding a samurai sword in the office of Cheltenham Liberal Democrat MP Nigel Jones.

Anyone found guilty of importing samurai swords will face up to seven years in prison and an unlimited fine.

plastic can be melted into any shape and size's, after a person kill they can reshape it into something other item.

Banning a samurai swords will not stop the next fool who will kill using some other tool

ya hit the nail on the head there william.

im like should we ban cars because some1 ran some1 over?
should we ban a leg of lamb because some woman beat her husband to death with it?

should we ban plastic bags and a wire ties because some1 put one over another persons head?

should we ban base ball because it uses a bat and people die every year from being beaten to death?

like you said, anything can be a weapon, hell even a q-tip can kill in the right hands, im not gona tell any1 how, some1 might get an idea, lol.

or maby we should ban water and cotton balls
ya can take a cottonball and soak it in water and freeze it and shoot some1 in the head with a rist rocket slingshot, and when the medical examiner looks in the wound theyll find just a cotton ball, death by fuzzy piece of cotton, lol.

now thats something kids would love to see a ban! on no home work if they don't have a computer,

but then again a monitor been use before to kill some one with as will. i know for a fact Tv-Sets been use to hit a person on the head bam! they are dead by news report on the channel it was on lol

its endless thing people can use to kill other with.

when the big crash of the stock-market hit many people die by many ways, jumping from windows, killing their whole family's off by any way they can get their hands on. its really endless ways

samurai swords really is pointless to ban, i bet not many die from this in This day of age and one person die they stereo type all samurai swords tobe Ban for one goofball, who use it to kill another man with.

As someone that owns and sells swords ive known about this since it was put to consulttion last year. Overall I think its a piece of good legislation, however I think that they have made an (honest) mistake in categorization of swords. They put in an exemption for antiques which is fair enough, but they lumped the rest of them together, while they wanted to ban the cheap deocrative ones that have caused problems in the UK, theyve also banned the modern reproductions and ww2 japanese swords that are collected and used by martial artists. Not everyone, infact the majority of collectors cant afford true antiques and hence collect the sorts of things I sell.

The Home office has already identified this as an issue and said that in the future they will broaden the collectors exemptions to cover more than just strict antiques.

But in general I have no problems with laws governing ownership and collections of swords. I actually advocate for a seperate license for such goods...

that would be going into the right direction each sword treated as a weapon like a handgun & Rifles add swords to that list of weapons license would be better then ban them.

would be ok to get a license to Carrier a sword type one can't hide it or rob a bank with! it would stand out too much to get away with it, unlike a handgun use all the time real easy to put it into ones pocket or under the person coat to use in a unlawful act

you may think this is crazy to think Mike but if you think about this i going to say here

* Handguns so easy to use in a unlawful act.

*Rifles long range weapons some use in unlawful acts too besides hunting.

Drive by shotting done so many times and kill so many people even 1800m away.

the range with a sword is very short range person to person Vs gun/rifles long range rounds can go a long way out some are kill not even being in the area were it was shot from.

i say let other hunt the old ways bow /arrows and swords in one hands to hunt with and law enforcement/ arm forces to Carrier weapons like rifles and handguns..... but thats me
