Well I don't know, there's still tanks around and they are still used as much as yesterday so I don't see a tend hehe

Look at Israel, best at Urban Warfare and the best tank for such a place And it kicks some major behind on the golan heights where I'm sure both the M1A2 and Leopard 2 A5 + would shake to bits

yup, tanks are still great for combat, only drawback is that high speed tend eat the traks, that is 1 reason for the aperance of the weeld tanks that they are playing with now, still heavily armored but can hit speeds of 90+mph,perfect for the highway and urban assault and pacification.

I guess he mean something like the SISU (search for XA-202 or XA-185 or XA-180)? Which the Swedes (many other countries, made by a company in Finland) been using in Bosnia since around 93, there's a few drawbacks with wheels.

1. Tracks give better turning ratio
2. Bullet + tire = bad, something that was clearly shown in Bosnia the tires ran out faster then they could be replaced. They had to take the wheels of trucks to keep them running (making the trucks useless )
3. Related to #2, tracks can be repaired, it's harder with a tire.
4. Mud, not good! Sand, not good! Snow, not as good! and so on.

Bad with tracks:

Can't coop with high speeds, but thats not an issue in places like Liberia, Bosnia, Kosovo etc. You can't go that fast on a muddy "road" like you can with tracks.

Now a good question, why do Sweden use these instead of tanks or tracked APC's?

My conclusion is:

1. They go better with the people where they are doing what they do best. A tank will most likely cause more trouble then it stops, what are you going to use the gun for? Shoot at humans at point blank? Not good would only scare people and they are there to help them.
2. Cheaper running costs
3. Lighter, moving a tank long stretches is extremely expensive compared to a SISU, and smaller bridges can't take the load from a tank.
4. Bigger wider etc
5. Less pressure on the ground, less chance of activating a tank mine.

But this is of course related to peacekeeping/peace enforcing

well the whels are special made from whiped rubber and the mold is spun during molding to get rid of any thick spots, that makes a squishy tire but doesnt need any air, ya can get a tire like it on forklifts and wheel barrows, same things but just larger.

or if ya wana do like i did, get a tire made for a 6000lb truck and put it on a 2000lb car and ya can runem flat forthe sidewalls are thick enough to support the weight of the car, and last a loooong time, the tires i got i have been using since 1993, things will dryrot b4 they wear out, lol.

my only conclusion on the wheeld tank is that it is for chacing some1 down on the highway terrain, for every new vehicle is required to have the On-Star thingy even if it isnt turned on it emits ythe constant signal, if you run they give chace and read you licence number and get the VIN number and type in the code and whamn they can cut your car off and lock you inside and they just pull up blow you up or arrest you.

and also the older cars starting in the lat 80s are equipted with a limiter chip in the ECM that after a sustained speed (around 90 100mph) at around 15seconds the engine will shut down and take up to 20munits to reset, plenty of time 4 them to catch up., the police are using this technology now with vehicle thefts, and with those who run, all that tech is designed to prevent you from getting away, that is the reason that the hummer is designed the way it is, it will go over 80-90mph in the highway but isnt very good in the woods for it is too big and breaks halfshafts, it is for urbanized terrain.

They don't use that, they have inflatable tires with an inner rubber core (to get out of hot spots in case of running flat). This is true both for Stryker and SISU (http://www.soldf.com/patgb203.html) a solid tire is not practical unless it's a smooth/flat surface.

And how many cars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Liberia or Congo are equipped with this system? We are talking about places involved in conflict, not in the USA in a peace time effort by the police
