Guns
When I read this the first thing I thought about was my defenseless friend from down under. Your countrymen should have told Rebecka Peters to take a long walk on a short pier.
Harvard Journal Study of Worldwide Data Obliterates Notion that Gun Ownership Correlates with Violence Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy Confirms that Reducing Gun Ownership by Law-Abiding Citizens Does Nothing to Reduce Violence Worldwide By now, any informed American is familiar with Dr. John R. Lott, Jr.'s famous axiom of "More Guns, Less Crime." In other words, American jurisdictions that allow law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms are far safer and more crime-free than jurisdictions that enact stringent "gun control" laws. Very simply, the ability of law-abiding citizens to possess firearms has helped reduce violent crime in America. Now, a Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy study shows that this is not just an American phenomenon. According to the study, worldwide gun ownership rates do not correlate with higher murder or suicide rates. In fact, many nations with high gun ownership have significantly lower murder and suicide rates. In their piece entitled Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide? A Review of International and some Domestic Evidence, Don B. Kates and Gary Mauser eviscerate "the mantra that more guns mean more deaths and that fewer guns, therefore, mean fewer deaths." In so doing, the authors provide fascinating historical insight into astronomical murder rates in the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and they dispel the myths that widespread gun ownership is somehow unique to the United States or that America suffers from the developed world's highest murder rate. To the contrary, they establish that Soviet murder rates far exceeded American murder rates, and continue to do so today, despite Russia's extremely stringent gun prohibitions. By 2004, they show, the Russian murder rate was nearly four times higher than the American rate. More fundamentally, Dr. Kates and Dr. Mauser demonstrate that other developed nations such as Norway, Finland, Germany, France and Denmark maintain high rates of gun ownership, yet possess murder rates lower than other developed nations in which gun ownership is much more restricted. For example, handguns are outlawed in Luxembourg, and gun ownership extremely rare, yet its murder rate is nine times greater than in Germany, which has one of the highest gun ownership rates in Europe. As another example, Hungary's murder rate is nearly three times higher than nearby Austria's, but Austria's gun ownership rate is over eight times higher than Hungary's. "Norway," they note, "has far and away Western Europe's highest household gun ownership rate (32%), but also its lowest murder rate. The Netherlands," in contrast, "has the lowest gun ownership rate in Western Europe (1.9%) ... yet the Dutch gun murder rate is higher than the Norwegian." Dr. Kates and Dr. Mauser proceed to dispel the mainstream misconception that lower rates of violence in Europe are somehow attributable to gun control laws. Instead, they reveal, "murder in Europe was at an all-time low before the gun controls were introduced." As the authors note, "strict controls did not stem the general trend of ever-growing violent crime throughout the post-WWII industrialized world." Citing England, for instance, they reveal that "when it had no firearms restrictions [in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries], England had little violent crime." By the late 1990s, however, "England moved from stringent controls to a complete ban on all handguns and many types of long guns." As a result, "by the year 2000, violent crime had so increased that England and Wales had Europe's highest violent crime rate, far surpassing even the United States." In America, on the other hand, "despite constant and substantially increasing gun ownership, the United States saw progressive and dramatic reductions in criminal violence in the 1990s." Critically, Dr. Kates and Dr. Mauser note that "the fall in the American crime rate is even more impressive when compared with the rest of the world," where 18 of the 25 countries surveyed by the British Home Office suffered violent crime increases during that same period. Furthermore, the authors highlight the important point that while the American gun murder rate often exceeds that in other nations, the overall per capita murder rate in other nations (including other means such as strangling, stabbing, beating, etc.) is oftentimes much higher than in America. The reason that gun ownership doesn't correlate with murder rates, the authors show, is that violent crime rates are determined instead by underlying cultural factors. "Ordinary people," they note, "simply do not murder." Rather, "the murderers are a small minority of extreme antisocial aberrants who manage to obtain guns whatever the level of gun ownership" in their society. Therefore, "banning guns cannot alleviate the socio-cultural and economic factors that are the real determinants of violence and crime rates." According to Dr. Kates and Dr. Mauser, "there is no reason for laws prohibiting gun possession by ordinary, law-abiding, responsible adults because such people virtually never commit murder. If one accepts that such adults are far more likely to be victims of violent crime than to commit it, disarming them becomes not just unproductive but counter-productive." John Lott couldn't have stated it better himself.

Theres no debate in this subject and its something i have known already, but here is what i usually say when the subject of gun control comes up:
"If someone wants to murder someone they will always find a way. lets ban all knives, cords and ropes, pillows, blunt objects, and especially Hands. this way murder and violent crime rates will dramatically drop. Or better yet, allow the people to have and carry whatever guns they desire freely, so the criminals do not know who has 1 or not. i do believe this is the only way to lower violent crimes in the world. anyone know the crime rates in Texas? well it is lower than the rest of USA because citizens there have the right to carry a concealed firearm with no permits. hmmm what mugger is going to work in that state?" Guess what Ive been saying is something the doctors quoted above just found out......... I also have to agree with registering of weapons, this way if you feel inclined to use your weapon in an illegal way then law enforcement agencies will know you own that particular weapon. also keep registered names and what weapons private so criminals cannot get a list of who is defenseless and who is not.

When the gun ban in Washington D.C. was inacted within a year it was also known as murder capital of thr United States. Handgun Control last year changed their name to The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violents. A big hoop-la was made of it to honor the Bradys. But the truth was someone had beat them to the punch and scooped up their domain name and used the web sight to show the Bradys for what they realy were. Money hungry socialist.
James Brady has now played to victim for almost 30 years. He has gone on T.V, raido and any place else who will listen saying "No one needs a gun in the home because the police will protect you." Anyone who has caller 911 knows different. Also when ever a police department is sued for a death that could have been prevented the police dept. wins because "The police are to protect the population as a whole and have no duty to protect the individual." A non-profit organization but the last I've heard Shara Brady pays herself $900,000.00 a year. She also takes in another $5,000.00 every time she speaks in public. If you visit their wed sight you will find all kinds of ways to send them money but no way to contact them with any questions. They use fear along with half truths to out right lies to get your cash. This group has also invented the scare words Plastic Gun, Saturday Night Special, Semi Auto Assult Rifle. It has tryed to ban a pistol saying it was a cop killing gun. I have re-loaded my own ammo for 25 years and the only thing a weapon has to do with the flight of a bullet is barrel lenght and bullet jump. So this claim of hers of a cop killing gun is a out right lie. She says the Saturday Night Speical is the criminals choice. No it is a weapon that can be bought by the low income American to protect his home and family. She says a Plastic gun can go undetected through airport security. Yet to this day there hasn't been a weapon made able to do as she claims. She says Semi Auto Assult Rifles are the criminals choise. But stats say it is used in less than 1/2 of 1% of crimes. Also there is no such thing as a semi auto assult rifle. An assult rifle is eighter select fire or full auto. Her non profit org. has now declaired the .50 cal BMG round is the choise of terrorist and are being used to shoot down passenger jets. There has never been a jet liner shot down with a rifle chambering a .50 BMG round or any other round. Their fight to inact gun laws Every Time has only incresed death and crime and both the Bradys know this. Their out right two faced lies have cost great numbers of Americans' lifes due to laws not allowing Americans their God given right of self protection. I truly believe if James and Shara blinking the poor out of their money revolved around anything but to disarm America a federal court would have had these two rotting in a federal prison a long time ago. Last year they did have a way to contact them if you needed help sending them money. The link was up less than a week due to me and thousands of other Americans sending them our 2 cents worth. Go to their web sight and see for yourself.

No, the government will send in some government goons with night vision and machine guns. Not much sport but it has always proves effective. __________________________________________________ ____________________ Best to send this to your senators where it will be more productive than just posted on a forum. Oh I have. But my senator is a democratic yes man that does what he is told to do by moveon.org. just like all the democrats running for president. All of them but one is a socialis. The only true democrat running for president is govenor of New Mexico. He has won 4 nobel peace prizes. an has more experiance than all the others combined but he is last on the list because he doesn't fit in with moveon.org and it's money man's plan. My senator, and ones like him are the reason these felon, the bradys are still not behind bars. One of her best lines" If it only saves just one child" To say child death rates from a guns was up she changed the age of a child from 18 to 25 then included all drug and gang related deaths. If she needs a stat she has always come up with a way to fabricate one. How this couple can go around the country lying and play the victim for over 25 years help passing laws against the second amendment. Laws that have showen every time to increse crime and murder. Begging for cash from the ignorant and for our government to not only turn a blind eye but prase her... It shows that criminals also run this country. but that's another story and this isn't the place for it. But Shara that something that concerns ever American because when the second amendment falls the rest will fall right on top of it.

an armed people being nessasiary for the sucurity of the nation, for without arms an invader can just walk thru and eat ya lunch.
they asked the USSR why they never invaded in the cold war, they said there were to many people who were armed, so to disarm the people will seal the fate of the US and an outside army can just invade anytime they wanted. but guns are easy, a man who knows what he is doing can walk into any local hardware store and get the parts to build a gun and any grocery store and get the nessasisary components for the powder, and use fishing weights for the bullets. its a little dangerious but ya can do like the butterknife bragades used to do, hand some1 a butterknife and theyll go and get a gun from the policing force, that happened a lot in occupied france. but give me a cherry leaf and u can get cynide, use a cottonball and piece of coathanger wire and ya got a dart, use a piece of brake line and ya got a blowgun, ya get good ya dip the dart in the cynide and shoot the other guy in the neck and then ya can get his gun. give me a zippo lighter, a piece of steel tubing a 22shell a christmas tree lite, a small micro pushbutto like what goes in a computer cabnet for the power, and 3 button cell batteries and i have a gun that looks like a lighter. yes im paranoid, paranoia is cheap, it makes ya get ready for something , even if it doesnt happen atleast ya tried in the 1st place.
like the ant and the grasshopper, the ant preapaired and the grashopper didnt so the ant ate during the winter and the grasshopper didnt. yes i may be paranoid,it may not happen any time soon but id rather be prepaired than be left wondering what the hell im gona do being i didnt prepair. it is funny thoe, it is the ones that said the other guy was paranoid that comes a knocking asking for something when they need something after something big happens wether it a natural disaster or something other. if ya didnt take the time to prepair then dont come a knocking at my door. the government trying to disarm the people is inevitable, just look at greece, look at rome, look at egyptyians, look at nazi germany and look at all of the gun laws poping up everwhere now. |

I can be very paranoid sometimes, and very aware or my surroundings. A lot of people reckon it's because I'm just scared of things, but I don't care what they think. It's a good pre-caution method just incase anything happens - like getting hit in the back of the head without knowing it.

If I lived in Penn. I would fight this law with everything I had. All this law will do is set up a work safe inviorment for the criminal. He will have no fear to enter a home. Or worst yet a group of felons enter your home
There is a new crime that started south of the border and is now hitting America. You are kidnapped from an ATM and made to drain your bank account. Your family is then called and told to bring any thing of value if you want to see your love one again. Most of the time the love one is killed anyway. So watch your back at ATM machines.
