learned a new command today for win networking.
was really struggling to sort out a problem yesterday. the customer had a PC that wouldn't connect to the domain, it was there is spirit (), it could be pinged but it just would not join the domain.
the only indication of what was wrong was that thre was the option to repair the connection. that gave an error of purging and reloading the remote cache name table of NetBT Sending name release packets to WINS and starting refresh so um yeah, it was a bit tricky -for me at least - to find out what was wrong. anyway.... pc was loaded with a ton of spyware (MS spyware and spybot didnt detect it) reinstalled the NIC tried a different NIC swapped cables IP /release / renew / dns flush etc disabeld and renabled all protocols. =no change what i found out a bit later was that in XP you cannot uninstall TCP/IP it gets installed with XP and that's it apparently? however you can set it back to how it was when windows was first installed (essentially reinstalling the TCP/IP stack). command: netsh int ip reset reset.txt after that, everything was ok i think if i was at home that i would have formatted but can't always do that with customer's stuff. seems to be a common error (not always to do with domains) but not too many useful fixes on google. i suspect it happened when a piece of spyware was uninstalled / removed and it decided to take a dump on the system when it left so yeah, sry for the long boring post, but it might be useful someday for anyone working with networks |

That would have been a great thing to know when I was doing the network. There was one computer that just would not connect to te domain no matter what, but could ping it. I ended up formatting cause the computer was full of junk
