Random Question

What did you think of the soviet union? What do you think about the whole thing?

Was the soviet union good or bad in your case?

as a whole it was fair to a point when people be come scare of their own government it time to leave it.

think in 1940-1960 it was ok, but after the 1960 it turn real bad were they lost track of the people and blackball their own people to keep them under control is real sad. think thats what did them in. spending more then they had to use.

people make the money Products>governmen tax some of the total money people made> not to kill over off the people over tax and leave them broken.

USSR soviet union was a over kill.
don't know how the people over there doing now days lost track after the soviet union ballie up.

do they still have it hard times buying food now days and has their life stlye gotten any better?

the USSR was not good in the fact that it was communist. Communism isn't bad, but some of the leaders of communist countries are bad.

the USSR did not let its citizens the 'basic' freedoms we enjoy today. So, in that case, no, it was not very good.

And, of course, the whole WWII thing was not good either.

The idea of communism isn't bad...infact it is good. However the idea also leads to many umm how do you put it, like holes. People with bad ideas can utilize these wholes and you see that throughout the history of communism. I'm not really sure tho... good idea, didn't work good hto.

Plain

Difficult question to answer Vixxy because in many Western countries The old U.S.S.R. was viewed as a very real threat to the security of Western democracy thus we had the North Alantic Treaty Organisation or N.A.T.O. to deal with any potential threat it may have posed.

I don't think the Russina people were our enemy in the true sense of the word but Communism was in as much as it was the exact opposite of our belief in a free enterprise and a democratic system and of course Communism was used by the leadership of the Soviet Union to it's own ends which meant that it was a dictatorship in all but name where any opposite views held by people who opposed the regime usually ended up in their vanishing or even death.

It was a very real threat to the world in general as it exported revolution to third world countries in an attempt to dominate the world and bring tht world under it's control.

Many critics of the U.S.A., (ill informed in my opinion), try to paint America in the same light in the modern world but the United States always only had allies who could and do disagree with it's foreign policy where as the Soviet Union only had satelite nations who where under it's total control.

The best example of this is the so called "Prague spring" back in 1968 in which a satelite nation tried to introduce democratic reforms which were swiftly and brutally bought to an end by a Soviet invasion of that nation. Czechoslovakia only tasted true freedom when the Soviet Union began to collapse under the reforms bought in by Gorbachev and thankfully that collpase did not lead to a major conflict in the former Soviet Union.

Finally I think it was a malign influence on the world and world politics and the world is a better place for it having passed into history, were it not for the steadfast opposition of the United States against the U.S.S.R. after the second world war there is no doubt that it would have tried to dominate Western Europe and without American support it would have suceeded in doing so.

A fact many mainland European nations seem to forget all to easily!

Warm Regards
