MS IntelliMouse - 2 Button Scroll

Ok, this is the first scroll mouse I have ever had that the scroll wheel went band. Are scroll mouses known to stop working like this? The two buttons work but the scroll just stopped working yesterday. I've unplugged it and plugged it back in, turned off the machine and back on, the normal stuff and it just wont work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

have a quick look in your control panel > system > hardware > device manager > mice and other pointing devices

and check that the right mose is there.

try reinstalling the drivers.

No. It's about 4 years old. 2002 Dell Demension 8100. MS Mouse but has the Dell Logo on it.

Oh dear God, I just took a peek and it's nasty on the sides of the wheel. I need to take it apart but there is no way to do so. Maybe a large hammer? heh

Probably screws underneath the feet or label and clips holding it together.
