A stowaway cat which went missing in America and was found in France has become a feline celebrity.

Emily the tabby went walkabout in her home town of Appleton in Wisconsin.

But it appears she became a little too adventurous when she went prowling around a local warehouse.

She ended up in a cargo container - and three weeks later her and the storage unit were in Nancy on the German border.

She was discovered in the cargo by workers at laminating company Raflatac - who nicknamed the pussy 'Raflacat'.

Spokeswoman Christele Gozillon said: "We received a container from Wisconsin full of bales of adhesive paper. We heard a cat meowing. It was a real surprise."

Emily was wearing a tag so the company called the owner's vet John Palarski to tell him that Emily was safe.

"There must have been a lot of mice on the boat," he said.

Owners Lesley and Donny McElhiney were delighted to hear their wandering pet had been found.

Mrs McElhiney said: "They are such sweet people to be willing to go through this with us."

They are now working out how to get Emily home after her quarantine period in France.

However, in the meantime Emily's adventure has caused quite a stir and she and the family have been in constant demand for television appearances and photocalls.
