Smile AOL Security software pay a fine 4 being a adware too lol

Time Warner's Advertising.com Inc. settles FTC adware charges
WASHINGTON (AP) - Advertising.com Inc., a unit of Time Warner Inc.'s America Online, agreed to settle U.S. federal charges that the company offered free security software without adequately disclosing that it also came with adware.

Under a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, Advertising.com will be required to "clearly and prominently" disclose that conusmers who install the program, SpyBlast, will receive pop-up ads based on their Internet browsing habits.

The settlement also requires that Advertising.com comply with standard record-keeping and other provisions to allow the FTC to monitor compliance with the order. The proposed consent order doesn't cover America Online, which bought Advertising.com for $435 million US in 2004.

The FTC complaint charged that when consumers install SpyBlast - a software intended to protect against hackers - they are not required to read the agreement alerting users about receiving potential marketing messages.

Adware and spyware have become major nuisances for consumers. Both types of programs typically are installed with little or no disclosure. While adware is less dangerous than spyware, consumers complain adware programs bombard them with pop-up ads, slow their computers and are hard to remove.

In June, Intermix Media Inc. agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle charges filed by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer that it illegally distributed adware.

I am sick and tired of having to work my ass off while Mike Schneider and Jason "Jay" Hoffman, both employees of Weatherbug, use company resources and time to start up their own business.

Additionally, Jason Hoffman, who I saw affiliated with another company which ended up being a scam, works in customer service and has access to bank accounts and credit card numbers. My suspicions were awakened when I read that he might have been involved with a theft of credit card numbers in Florida. I see he was in Florida working with the Lou Pearlman scam.

(I think you should put the photo of Jay here)

JASON "Jay" HOFFMAN aka Jay Wallace aka Jerry King aka Kyle Hart aka Zach Baumel aka Dee Snyder aka Frank Torrelli

We have a great deal going with AOL and they should know how Hoffman and Schneider are jeopardizing that relationship with AOL. Our revenue stream determines the ability to pay employees, but when they waste the customer's money they not only jeopardize our reputation, but also the reputation of AOL.

If they donot cease this illegitimate venture and apologize on this site to the public, and the other Weatherbug employees, for ripping off their time and resources, I will provide their contact data so you all can let them know how you feel about their behavior. Mike is the Senior Manager of Business Development and Jay is the Customer Service Manager.

(P.S. I am surprised we haven't been raided by the FBI.)

by the way there is a way to unstill/remove the weatherbug totally it long step but you can do it.

link: http://www.pchell.com/support/weatherbug.shtml

they tell you all the in's and out what is needed to be done, best print it up before doing anything. this way you keep AIM and don't have the weatherbug crap at all in your system.
===========================================
if you like to save a lot of headacks use this tool: MR Tech AOL Cleaner 1.1 Released

download from here: http://www.mrtech.com/news/messages/4617.html

it remove/unstill:
It currently prompts you to pick the uninstallation and removal of any of the following "non-critical" AOL installed programs:

- AOL Coach 1.0 & 2.0
- AOL Computer Check-Up 2.0
* AOL Deskbar
* AOL & AIM IE Toolbar
- AOL Spyware Protection & Data
* AOL You've Got Pictures Screensaver
- Pure Networks Port Magic
- Viewpoint Media Player
* WeatherBug
* Wildtangent & Wildtangent User Data
- Removal of AIM Backup Installers

*items i would remove
rest i think are ok but again i don't really know for a fact if they are bad ether adware or not. ones i *** next to really are not needed
===========================================
here another site with a lot of remove of AIM crap too:
http://people.aero.und.edu/~ewondras/aim.html
