I think double layer is were you can put two layers of data onto a disk (on on side of the disck) , bit like the way Rockstar* games did with there latest game, San Andreas is on a double layered disk, but mabye someone else who explain better..?

What is the difference between regular DVD and double-layer DVD?
Regular DVD media has a storage capacity of 4.7GB. The innovative double-layer DVD can hold up to 8.5GB, providing an additional two to five hours of video storage. It works by burning a second layer behind the initial single layer; however, a double-layer DVD writer is required to take advantage of the 8.5GB of storage. (Many HP Media Center PCs have a built-in double-layer DVD writer. You can also purchase an external HP DVD movie writer.)

will i got the asker about the double layer thing basic it a spec-blank DVD Cd that is made to run with two layers so it double up on space on the Blank DVD-R or DVD-RW they cost extra but not much.

basic there are two types of blank DVD's to use.
1.) Stander DVD-RW and DVD-RW around 4gb insides
2.) Double Layer: DVD-R and DVD-RW 8-9GB insize

the Blanks Cd will burn off as normal anyways.

still cheaper then a Zip-drive 250mb (floppy) USD-50.00+ and up. i pay back in 2003 USD-75.00 no more of that

Tongue

man i still can't believe that OMG still selling the Zip-drives for outages prices, OMG i am so happy i can burn a Data DVD CD off and transfer a item like a update to my Aunt PC without burning a CD off, i can put a lot more on one DVD-Cd data to use and not like 20+ cd off and on

a double layer Data DVD can hold about 700mb x 3 =2100mb for every 1GB. 8gb makes about 16.000mb ÷ 22.85 Cd's into a Double layer DVD Data CD.

stander about 2000mb x 4 = 8000mb thats like 11.42 cds in one stander DVD Data.

If you want to use more memory, you will need to upgrade to a 64-bit OS.

Tape drives and such are actually still good if not better in some places. Take for instance a corporation that requires backups to be taken nightly, weekley and monthly(different type of backup for each.. if you want to know more ask me). Now if i was to use a cd then i can only reuse if its an RW and then i can only use it a few times as most dont work more than that. If i had tapes i can simply reuse them later. If i had tons and tons of data to backup all the time then i would burn through tons of cd's. For the average home user or even a user like myself that i dont do all these backups then a cd is probably the best solution.
