setting up a network...

ok, first i would like to know what in the hell a "1394 Connection" is ...

then do you make the 1394 connection shared or you make the router shared...

i seemed to sorta get a network running with my brother last night .. this guy gave me a "special" cat5 cable ... (don't know whats special about it) and just plugged it in and viola .. i could send him a few programs....then just out of the blue it lost connecion . lol ..

but if i search for his computer...it comes up . its in my network places too... just says "i can't connect because i do not have prermission, ask the admin" ... well ... i am the admin .. and i don't have a clue ...

any information would be greatly appreciated

Right click on the C:/ drives and click sharing, then set them to shared and viola, you can now see the other machine, at least it should be that easy if u got windows xp

1394 = Firewire...kinda like USB.
You can use it to network...I had a 1394 network with my bro's laptop 400Mbps connection...NO lag :P

Are both comps on XP?

sounds to me like his comp is turned off or either the network isnt set, try seting network through the wizard works like a charm for me all the time.

And if Newton Faulkner's voice can be described as "R&B" then Kurt Cobain must be a member of Boyz II Men.

Keeping dynamic setting is better I think. Less complications.

dont forget to check your firewall settings m8, to see shared folders on another comp u will need to let the firewall let them through

Having configuration of network with OS of each PC helps. Just a note for the future.
