New cable connection "cannot connect to server"

Hey DF Superstars
My friend just got a cable connection and he can't connect to Nova. I searched the threads using the "search button" and after 2 hours I gave up. I know that one of you guru's can answer this or lead me in the right direction. I thought it might be his firewall since most of the threads mentioned the fact that they cause a lot of the problems. I am sure this is a frequently asked question , and I'm sure that if I was intellegent enough to use the right keywords in my search I could find it.
I am waiting on his reply for info on his set-up . I am almost certain he is running XP. You guys have proven to be very helpful and Delta-wise . Thanks for reading !

My buddy sent me this information about his computer. He said that he has tried to connect with the firewall disabled and still can not connect to Nova. I pasted his message below.


Hey im on XP Pro with service pack 2 and i shut all
firewall down and it still dont work my cable modom is
ans surfboard SB4100
and the hub router is network everywhere.

Thanks again for all the help Steve and Chief ADFP. We really miss this guy and want to get him back on the battlefield. Delta Force 1 has lost it's appeal to the masses but we are some of the die-hard vets that still meet up in Private Idaho to pass out the ammo and jokes.

my only thought is that the router had a built in firewall.

i notice that you say you miss the guy, so he used to be able to join? well he's installed something or added a new piece of hardware somewhere that's causing it. i cannot guess at this :/ what is different now than it used to be?

Yeah Steve he used to have a DSL connection and now he has a cable connection . That is all that has changed. I assume he has added a cable router and his ISP's software. Other than that I don't think anything else has changed. He sent me this message about his set-up:

I have no clue about routers. I have an Alcatel ADSL modom and I have never had any trouble joining any game..Unless I forgot to pay my phone bill! I hope the new information will shed some more light on this. Thank you again Steve for taking the time to help us out.

i do not know the port number for DF1 though.



if there is a problem getting that running then the only other option is to put his LAN ip in the DMZ. (its an option in the router mamagement screen). basically this will allow all incomming and outgoing connections to that IP, i.e. disable the friewall totally for his computer. tbh taking down the firewall is not a major issue while playing a few games.

I relayed the information and site address to him. I cannot express enough grattitude for the help you guys have given a complete stranger like me. Especially for a game as old as DF1 is. You guys are sharp and I appreciate your efforts and hospitality. My friend thanks you too. Catch us in a game if you ever get by DF1 , we usually play DM in Private idaho. We are all anticipating the release of Delta Force Reloaded and expect a much larger crowd than are participating ATM.
I will let you know if that fixes his troubles for future reference as well as the port # for DF1.
