signatures arent hard to falsify once or twice, its repeatedly where imposters get caught, here in adeliade if you want to get anything out of thebank safe, you have to sign signatures for every step you take.

That and if they have you had to enter your pin number its not the banks problem, if someone has your pin its because you gave it to them....

Here over in the UK we're starting to use Chip 'N' Pin, which is when u buy something, and pay with credit card / debit card you put a pn in at the counter.
But not with the banks yet, only at cashpoints.

When I lost my Cashcard I went to the bank to ask them to cancel and replace.
The woman behind the counter took me to a seperate room and dialed a number on the phone in there.

In order to cancel my card I had to.
Give my Name
Give my Address
Give my account details
Give my mothers maiden name
Give my Date of Birth
Give the address of the Branch I opened my account
Give them the rough details of any direct debit I had running from that account.

Afterward I left the room and went back to the counter and asked for £200 whilst I waited for the new card.
SHe looked at one page of a tatement to take the details and then flashed the cash. All I had to do was write my name on a slip of paper.

One wonders why I had to be all but analy searched to prevent someone else using my card but that all I had to do was smile and copy a signature to get hundreds of pounds.

What worries me is not the lack of security, but the exchange rate US$ 1.81 / 1.00 Euro. May I deposit Euros in that bank and withdraw US$ at that rate???????

I don't know about anywhere else, but here in America, if it wasn't you who signed something, or if you didn't sign it willingly, you're not considered accountable for it. So, they can get you're cash, but the bank will have to give it back to you(and either find the impostor or absorb the losses).

It certainly does make you stop and think about how secure bank services are. Perhaps in your case Steve you have a very honest face but then the biggest villain in the world could look honest couldn't he/she?

It does seem that banks are a little lax when it comes to handing out large amounts of cash but on the other hand if they increase security it might lead to very long delays when your need to get at your money.

It's all down to finding a balance between security and good customer service.

Regards
