My headphones are ringing!

Hey guys got a computer question for you. When I plug headphones in to my laptop (Compaq Evo N800c) I get a slight ringing sound. It is not so bothersome when I play BHD but during the quiet moments of the game (rare ) it can be quite uncomfortable. I have tried several types of headphones but they all have the same results. I even went so far as to set my speaker settings to "stereo headphones" under the Control Panel of Windows XP Professional. BTW when I unplug the headphones and use the speakers in the laptop (JBL Pro) there is no ringing. Help me before my ears start to bleed...........

ok, go to your Speaker settings in the bottom right corner and make sure your mic is either or mute, or at 0. I had that same problem...

Tried it, didn't work.....any other suggestions?
