you may want to consider a amd 64 cpu Chief is right most apps are only 32bit but 64 is the new and it is the future of pc's and they handle 32 bit apps better than like the 32 bit AMD XP

GET WIN XP PRO! SP2
GREAT NVIDIA GFX CARD ( NOT THE geforce fx 5200 its cheap but geting old and its kinda slow and no ATI either there is only 3 or 4 games out that are designed for them like the doom 2 and 3.

MEMORY you want at least 512mb DDR 1gb best

NO INTEL CPUS! they run hot and they in with microsoft and they leave this backdoor in the chip so that microsoft and everyone else can snoop without you knowing.

the moma board as my mom and sis calls it other wise known as Mother board-- i would get the new msi k8n neo 2

sound card- not somthing you think you want to spend very much on but i got to tell you i paid 150 bucks for my sound blaster audigy 2 ZS Platinum and i have been very pleased.

speakers- MUST BE GOOD! inless you want to here a crakle every time you fire your gun get good speakers. i reccomend the logitech z 640 (one i have)

THUMB PRINT READER! this is not a needed part but its so cool i got one from sams club and i am very pleased it made by microsoft. i got it for just 39 bucks and i have gotten more than that out of it already. it logs me on to novahq windows anything i tell it to so now i dont have to type the username and password any more just put my finger on the reader and go. so cool.

HARD DRIVE: i would get a western digital or seagate i have a MAXTOR andi am not very happy with it. size- i would get a 40 or 80GB i have the 80GB

oh and on the cpu dont look at the speed EX.well intel is 3.6ghz and amd is only 2.4ghz--- NO NO NO NO! amd can do 2 times as much as intel can do. EX:intel can do only 1 thing per clock cycle but amd can do 2 or 3 things per clock cycle.
and amd's dont over heat AND intel has 800mhz Front side bus(FSB) amd 64's have 1ghz

now that i have said all this if you can wait til 2005 i would i seen were amd is going to come out with something new thats going to make amd 64's come down in price big time.

as for christmas ask for money and save it til 2005.

thats what im doing. i got a older system specs below

cpu-AMD XP 2000+ 266 fsb
Mother board - Syntax ????? ( i forgot the model)
Memory 512mb ddr
HD-80 gb maxtor
cd dives-52x24x52 cdrw and 16x dvd (new dvd)
speakers-logitech z 640's (kinda new)
kb and ms - logitech cordless mx duo combo (kinda new)
tv tuner (neat)(new)
sound card sound blaster audigy 2 zs platinum (new)
Moniter- 19' (NEW)
GFX Card Nvidia Geforce fx 5200 128mb ddr (kinda slow)

thats mine some parts you may say are old but this was a kick'en system in late 2002
