only reason people are losing their job is because many businesses are now over-staffed as the demand for many products fall. As for more homes being bought, its probably because all those people who couldn't afford their first house can now afford it since the prices have fell dramatically..

World economy is controled by US economy, an increasing house buying is a strong indication on the economy getting stronger in the US which means that the world economy is most likley on it's way up

We're on the tail end of this, so the how prices are just starting to go down locally. They do predict the interest rates to go back up in about 1 1/2 years. My brother in law and sister are looking to buy a house soon

Good time to buy if you have the money.

People with the funds are buying houses now because the value is lower than it's ever been. 10 years from now the purchases they make today will have doubled or more in value... Very smart time to buy because the value and interest rates aren’t going down anymore than they already are...

The ripple effect really shows here... The banks kill the housing industry which kills the construction industry which kills the wholesale & retail industry which kills manufacturing which kills raw material suppliers. All these industries cut jobs which leaves the economy with less people to spend money... not only that but people that still have jobs are generally scared to spend their money in case it happens to them.

For this to all come back the banks have to start giving out loans again so people can start buying houses which yada yada... we're still a ways out.

Amen Scott, and that's the point were the bottleneck is.. Even tho banks are funded with government support ( atleast overhere they are ) they keep sitting on there money like the goose on the golden egg...

The banks should get a kick in the arse to loan out money so that the economy will slighly florish and thus can start again..

Luckily for me im in a sector were we do not have the problems for years to come..

That's where the next problem comes into play... Average everyday people that have good enough credit to get loans aren't in the market for things such as houses and cars because of the situation. And right now the banks aren't going near people with average or below credit because it's the same risk that got us where we are today.

Every day we hear about how bad it is in the media and see companies announcing massive layoffs... No one wants to buy a house or car and then lose their job... I think for all this to come back faster companies need to get over the layoff phase and the media needs to stop mentioning how bad it is so people start buying things.

That's true Scott.

I think the government needs to force banks to lend since the money isn't theirs.
