I could not install Halflife 2 without steam validation...I was on dial up at the time and it would not connect to steam.

You don't really own the content you bought? With steam you only get the rights to play it. What happens when steam disappears? All the games you have will be worthless. This is why I am against digital distribution and validation.

Punny.

And to throw my 2 cents in, I really hate Steam, along with any other [heaven forbid] content delivery platforms out there.

Mstenger404 12-27-2009 11:15 PM

somewhere on the valve forums there was a discussion about what if steam failed worldwide. One of the higher up members or moderators quoted what the CEO of valve himself said. If the time has come that steam had to be taken down, a patch will be released to unlock all of the games you have installed on steam.

tbh I dont see valve going down anytime soon anyway.

Scott 12-28-2009 12:16 PM

Wheres the guarantee of that happening? And I hardly doubt that the publishers of the games would agree to something like that.

I'm not knocking Steam as a service as I am sure that it ads value and being able to download a game is very convenient but you just don't own anything with Steam. There is no guarantee that I will be able to pick up and play MW2 12 years from now, like I can DF1.

steam is slow with patches but i'm less againsta steam than i was, but hey i have a fast internet connetion now so downloading all the games is ok.

the games certainly are not cheaper unelss you get the weekend deal or something.

want to play all your games anywhere in the world, steam is a good solution for that :)

tbh i'm not worried about old games or what games i can and cannot play inthe future because i only play a few games anyway, and usually forget the old ones.
