We found another one that costs but is just as good as cpanel. It is similar to that name I forgot the name...ask Elite.

atholon 12-20-2004 09:46 PM

No it was like web admin or something like that. Looked way way professional it was like $300 for unlimited accounts and life.

www.directadmin.com

JonM 12-23-2004 12:55 PM

i got DirectAdmin on my server, works sweet but im not in there so much. All i go into it for is to create a occasional FTP / Email or SQL DB

But for a home server i'd never get it costs to much money.

BeBop 12-23-2004 02:56 PM

webmin has everything that has plus it has a lot of stuff you can use for direct things to the system, such as command lines and editing the system itself with partitioning ;)

plus webmin is free :D

katana*GFR* 12-24-2004 07:07 AM

hehehe lol, well im putting up a network at the barracks, and it could be quite handy for an internal i'net. Any more proggys i can use?

BeBop 12-24-2004 07:47 AM

well what would you like to use lol? you can use Real VNC for a remote connection if you need to do actual work on the server, or you can use SSH to login as well.

atholon 12-29-2004 05:03 PM

:) I don't do much with servers. And elite you need to get on MSN you goober!

katana*GFR* 12-30-2004 12:59 AM

The server will be placed in my room so no need for VNC.
Looking for a DNS server orso. So i can put up something like internet.

SFR-LiquidFX 12-31-2004 03:22 AM

use BIND for your DNS Server software....

BeBop 12-31-2004 03:40 AM

yeah if you install BIND just set teh location of it in the Webmin panel and you can change your DNs information from there and add new zones etc... pretty cool - im still learning about DNs tho so im not quite sure about how to get it wroking

atholon 12-31-2004 03:11 PM

grrr. I need to learn how to set this crap up

BeBop 12-31-2004 07:35 PM

its pretty easy, well with mandrake webmin came as a RPM you could install adn it setup it up for me... alls i had to do was go to http://myserver:10000/ (on my LAN, it doesnt seem to work on a WAN)... RPM's are a quick easy way to install things, but you can download the binaries and compile them, you just need to make sure you have a compiler installed (GCC for instance) and it pretty much makes things about as easy, it helps to read the docs if you plan on doing something with a binary install, especially if you have to do configuration things...

things i've been able to install with binaries lol...
team speak server (very easy)
webalizer ( medium)
apache 2.x ( very hard, at least for me... )

If ya ever need help settin somethin up i might be able to help ya (my msn etc is in my profile).
