The bit rate of the music can be changed when you rip it. If you got it off the internet, it's probably already at optimal bitrate, and compressing it anymore would probably make it sound like crap. However, if these are normal size songs (like 3 - 5 minutes each) you should be able to fit more than 21 on 128 Mb. I can fit about 45 on mine, (same size). I use WMA, which does get better compression, but I don't think the difference is that big.

I have a CD player that plays MP3 disks.
I can fit about 180 tunes on at 128kbit. Its still a damn sight more clunky than an MP3 player though. Having said that I have three disks with 400+ tracks on now. The CD player only cost £90. It actually came with software to compress music just for its ownself that can push up to 500 tracks on one disc (but I cant be arsed with that). 21 tracks on a little bitty player cant be all that horrendous though. How much did you pay for it? |

If you're paying, I'd never advise getting an iPod. There are plenty of other hard disk players that do just as much for less money. As for CD players, ugh!. I do buy CD's, but I immediately rip them( usually at about 64 kbits WMA, I really don't care how good the sound is as long as it's not totally crap). What would be really nice would be if they'd start selling music on MP3 and WMA CD's, then you'd be looking at several hundred disks, lol. Imagine how much those would cost. Hehe, how about MP3 and WMA DVD's. Then you could easily fit an artists entire career on one disk (that's 4.5 GB, could easily be 12 GB in the future)
