free Linux For Windows Users?

I have done some research.. tried a few versions of linux but none of them were extremely windows user friendly..

i have tried:

Ubuntu
redhat
and a few others..

i liked ubuntu better than red hat but there has to be a better one...

i have also tried and i am using Gentoo Linux for a web server...

i have heard of mandrake and lindows..but i dont think mandrake is free and i know lindows isn't...

i can make windows spin like a top but when it comes to linux i know nothing...

Do You know of a Version of linux that would be relatively easy for a windows user to use?

also do you know of a free program other than wine to run games on linux?

personally i think if your gonna use linux and expect anything web server - good you need to be willing to learn the DOS like mode instead of using a GUI Desktop. Maybe that's just my opinion?

I went poking around redhat.com just a few minutes ago and found it to be sad.. Red hat used to be free, or at least cheap, but now they are charging almost as much as windows.. $299 for Standard Edition Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (Which is basically Red hat desktop).. in fact I can pick up a copy of Windows XP PRO /w SP2 at newegg.com for 1/2 that price...

How do they claim it's cheaper to manage? People have to learn Linux, or hire someone to teach them how to use it. Then they have to teach employees how to use it. Time = money.. And after everyone knows how to use it, Red Hat makes you pay a subscription to get updates... Then you have to find decent software to run on it..

Sad.. I almost don't see a point to migrating to Linux now. I don't hate Linux, and I don't hate windows. But if there both the same price then why go to Linux when everything works with windows? BTW I'm only really talking about Red Hat & Novell that charge a lot for Linux + have subscriptions.

thats what im thinking.. lol...

windows costs when you buy it but after that you have no worries...

but linux does make for a faster web server..

i had my site on a windows server and load times were 16 sec++ and after i switched to linux i got 3 sec!!

i just want to mess with it.. ill probably use windows allot more..

I have tried fedora and it is free.

You can also get SuSe free. Mainly what you are paying for is the extensions they make along with technical support.
