Cancer News from Johns Hopkins:

Cancer News from Johns Hopkins:

No plastic containers in micro.
No water bottles in freezer.
No plastic wrap in micro.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters.

This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins
are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your
plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program manager at
Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He
talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we
should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.

This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of
fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic
containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the
dioxin.

So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that Saran wrap is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Thanks bro.

Here is something on Cancer I found in my news homepage.
----------------------------------------------

Eat This Fruit. It Inhibits Cancer Cells

Eat grapes regularly and you may never get cancer.

A research team at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has determined that components in grapes, including some that have been newly identified, work together to dramatically inhibit an enzyme crucial to the proliferation of cancer cells.

The study, which was done using advanced molecular tools with grape-cell cultures, helps to identify which flavonoids in grapes and red wine are most responsible for anti-cancer qualities. Flavonoids are a group of chemical compounds naturally found in certain fruits, vegetables, teas, wines, nuts, seeds, and roots; they have been shown to prevent or slow the development of some cancers. Flavonoids are more abundant in red grapes than in white grapes.

What is most exciting about this study is that the researchers not only found a dozen new constituents in grape-cell culture extracts, but also identified how some of them work synergistically against an enzyme that is necessary for the spread of cancer. "The findings add to the argument for eating whole foods," study co-author Elvira Gonzalez de Mejia, a professor in the department of food science and human nutrition, said in a news release announcing the study findings. "It's very clear that the synergy is critical. When a cell becomes malignant, that enzyme is expressed 300 times more than in a normal cell. If we can find a compound or mixture of compounds that can reduce the activity of that enzyme, the cancerous cells will die."

Eventually, researchers will be able to identify a reasonable dosage of grapes that we should eat to help prevent cancer. "By eating the fruit, we know that the bioactive component involved goes into your bloodstream and relocates to other regions," de Mejia explained. "Before now, we didn't really know that."

The research study was published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

To bad Grapes are rather expencive (atleast here).

One interesting thing to know is, is there any difference between specially designed plastic containers that soule purpouse is to be used in microwaves and freezing helps or no change (didnt read the whole article, its getting late so i might have missed it)

I like that some money is actually used for something good instead of meaningless research, refering to the cancer research.

It's called grapeseed extract. A glass of wine every other night does the job, as well as certain other benefits to your heart that moderate alcohol has

Always wash your grapes before eating. Wait until you get home from the market before picking at them out of the bag. I'm sure wine companies do a thorough cleaning before stepping on them with bare feet, ew, hahaha... .-troj

=========Remind me of Teflon=======
cookware made with Teflon should be watch for too, if it start to flick off the cookware should be trashed ASAP. reason it to can give you Cancer.

better use some other type of cookware then have a coating of Teflon on them. it like paint under heat it get into food too and your body will take it into the system.

Yeah, and their big second hand smoke thing. I can't believe that any American tax dollars went to secondhand smoke research. I was always around my family members who smoked, from birth until about 13. And when I say always, I mean daily, all the time, and mostly indoors. I don't have any breathing problems, I don't like smoking, I've never had the urge to have a smoke, and doc says my lungs are beautiful. Secondhand smoke is such a croc...

Yeah but I don't think it helps when you are smoking around a little kid.

Idefinately don't care for walking through someon's smoke clousd when leaving a store or something.

BTW my work is a POS! They make us support this software and then take EVERYTHING away so I have no way to troubleshoot it. I don't even know what the ICONS look like.

I don't think it's necessarily healthy, but I also don't think it's the huge health risk they're making it out to be. They make it sound like secondhand smoke is like wrapping your lips around a running car's exhaust...
