Cpu Fsb

Alright, I have a nasty problem. My Athlon 2800+ is supposed to be at 333 mhz fsb. I ran tweak now power pack, and it reported that it was running at 166. This confirmed my fears that it was running below what it could do (BHD was laggy!) I was skeptical, but then saw in the post that was true.

After consulting my mobo manual about bios settings, it said to set the multiplier thing at half what the fsb is supposed to be, so I set to 166 (there is no setting for 333). The mobo is an Asus A7N8X-E.

Also, the ram isn't what's holding it back. I've got pc3200 in it.

EDIT: I'll grab my manual and post exactly what settings are instead of "multiplier thing"

EDIT EDIT: Ok, I set the CPU Frequency to 166 because the manual said this is supposed to be half what the fsb is.

I set the frequency multiple to auto.

Thanks

Also of note, it's running at the correct frequency, 2083 mhz. It's only the FSB that's incorrect. Like I said, they should be at 333, but it's running at 166, and consequently, so is my dual channel pc3200. Thanks guys.

Download http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...ID-Build.shtml and run WCPUID.EXE

Check the value of the "System Buss", it should be around 333MHz for you. ( I hope )

The "FSB Speed" in TweakNow is the System Clock frequency, not the FSB frequency.

Or use http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...entifier.shtml for just AMD CPU's.

166 is correct

166 x 2 (amd system) = 333

jfyi: your ram is good to 200 (=400)

my chip should be 133 (266)
but just about runs ok on 225 (450) (that's with PC3200 yay!)

Ok, so what you're saying is: even though it reports as 166, it's actually running at 333? And, my ram is at 166, even though it can go to 200?

The numbers don't have to be the same do they? I thought I read somewhere that they did (though I'm not basing any decisions of it ).

Can I get my ram running at 200 like it should? If so, how?

Well, I guess as long as my cpu is running at 333, I'm fine.

What do you make of the cpu load supposedly being almost 100% during BHD update? I'm guessing the lag issues have to do with my vid card though...

Ok, I've got another question. PC 3200 is suppoed to be 400mhz, yet you say 200. Is this another half the speed to get fsb thing?

You're the man Stevie...I don't care what they say about you
