i know KB knows more bout these things than i do, i got me a M10M Czech gasmask, good for chem/bio/nuke/viral, pic below.



its set up kindof like the M17 mask that you probably have minus the hood witch is optional.

i was wondering about the filters, after you break the seal of the foil packets is there an expected shelf life as to where the filters arnt worth anything?

and the way i heard ya test to see if there is a good seal is to put your hands over the inlets and breath in and see if the mask sucks in, i was wondering about after ya breath in is the mask supposed to slowly reinflate when ya stop sucking?

if i remember right for the M17A1 it was like 8hrs of use it no longer any good.

there are two types filters one for training with and a combat model, basic they only last 8hrs.

break the seal don't matter you can still use it.

i would seal it back up best you can, vacuum seal better.

the air will get to it.

by the way never use any rubber cream or baby oil for it, baby powder is best for the mask keep it dry.

normal wear is ok rain and so on, but for maints on it baby powder.

you can clean it with light soap water and let it air dry out, after use baby powder on it help to keep skin rash down beside make it easy slid on and off.

*no bio-mask will help you from nuclear dust (dirty bomb) clouds. the only thing will stop that is lead and a lot of pure lead walls for sample. you need a lead suit to help in that area and 2-3min get it on.

i got the mask and all in a sealed ammo can like 50 cal linked comes in that has the seal in the lid to help keep the air out, but i took the shaved the 3 day shadow off my face and it seal a lot better.

had to clean the powder that came on it off for it tried to give me a rash, lol, i guess it was the release agent or the storage powder or something, but removing it is a must.

how do ya tell ya filters are getting depleated when using it?

1.) remove the filter
2.) wash it off the rubber with light soapy water
*no decreases soap or dish soap type, hand soap be ok.
3.) after it dry off (air dry normal) totally inside and after place some baby powder its (must) were the mask & skin contact to face.

you need to keep the oil in the rubber as it is! thats why you don't need to use any dish soap or degrease of any type the rubber will dry and start to crack up.

baby oil will break down the rubber so don't put any on it or any rubber oil cream of any type....a lot of people add oil to the runner to make it look new but after a time the rubber will break down

all i used was a wet papertowel to get the itchie powder off, it still got some residue left adhered to the rubber but it dont give rash anymore so i aint too worried about it.

i should have a can of baby powder here somewhere , ill dust some on it .

will you have to wash it totally, reason the powder is in all area of the mask you breath it in you think your skin was going crazy wait till you get into your lungs

ok ,take out filters and imerse in water and scrub lightly?
let it dry and then baby powder it.

yup i dont really need in lungs, need it in a hurry , put it on and all is well and i start to kill over from the powder, lol, not good.

use a lot of running water to remove any soap from it with, after then let it dry out on dish rack be ok, no hair dryer ether

scuba air tanks with mask like fire fighter use are better for nuclear dust then a NBC Mask that you got would not help any.

NBC suit and mask will not help any with dirty (nuclear dust) bomb go

the thing with nuclear bomb or dirty bomb once it get on you...dust lands on your body/clothing taken the radiation right into the body cells thats were the damage happens. lead suit is the only thing will help and that if it rated for high levels.

NBC mask can't stop gamma or xray from getting into your body...many think it will but its a joke to think that.

best thing you can do is wear a alert monitor patch/pen that will ether tell you the rads by color/scale rate or pen to alert you by.

so if im near a dirty nuke and it go off and i leave the area just sit down stick head between legs and kiss butt goodby for good chance im screwed anyway.

and i got a geiger counter here somewhewre , ill have to dig it out, but ill look for 1 of those pin thingys that mesures the rads in the vicinity.

yea the rad pen or badge would be better, but other wise you can keep that geiger counter meter running 7/24 but that would cost a lot more battier life $$$$.

i would have a rad pen or badge on me, if it read hot then use the geiger counter meter to see how bad it is.

now then there that DHS alert level online it a joke, they will never change the level on terrorist active level USA to let the public know be more watchful, even if something they know would happen they will not release it to the public, why you ask will it would alert the terrorist they know they up to something and they like to catch them in the act to get them red handed to court case be a done deal. pride before safety

yup, i dont really go much on what the DHS says, i mostly pour over the AP wire and look thru raw news b4 it goes to the papers and is bought by the news agency, i got about 30 something news sits book marked , but i probably get to much info doing that witch make it look like the end of the world or something , lol.


letting the people know about a large scale attack would probably be bad in itself even tho i belive that the people should be informed, like you said it would alert the terrorist and pluss ya will have large groups of people running thru the streets trampling each other trying to get out of the area, and then if it turn out to be nothing ya have very big lawsuit on ya hands, but like i say, all any1 can do is prepair b4hand so atleast they have a chance if something does come down the road.

Chief, NBC = Nuclear Biological and Chemical.. These masks are designed for all these things, thus they are better then as firefighters mask for these things..
You only need the filter for it..

Firefighter masks are designated for smoke, and urban pollution, and NBC masks arent..

Why would any army invest alot of money in a NBC mask when a firefighter mask is better?

lol, good point katana, the filters i got are rated for NBC and viral, and lol long, just getting them for just incase, being things getting kindof screwed up in the world we live in, with all the antibotic resistant stuff surfacing and such.

Viral is Biological warfare.. Or Chemical it depends on the use of viral stuff..

eg, dead rotten cow in the water is Biological, but something thats thrown over you is Chemical.
