I do realize it's not a big deal in many other places but here in Scandinavia it's as important as christmas, or in some cases more important then christmas.
It's a celibration that dates back to the vikings and probebly even longer. The scandinavian countries (apart from maybe denmark) are covered in darkness most of the year so the extra hours of light is celebrated in the summer, and midsommar is as the english word the middle of the summer and the lightest day of the year Where I live, the sun sets at around 10:30 PM and raises over the horizon again at 4 am (around 18 hours of daylight). In the winter we get only around 5 hours of daylight It's actually so important in Sweden that when our nationalday was introduced it was considered to be celebrated on Midsommar even if it had nothing to do with our independence or anything of Swedens history as a country but it got it's own day. The church even tried to ban it around the 1400 but failed miserably Last edited by SilentTrigger; 06-23-2012 at 03:20 PM. |

All I can say to that is well done and keep up the fight! The sooner humidity disposes of this bronze age fairytale into the realms of history where it belongs the better of we'll be...

There's also a reason why we eat ham at chrismas too, it's because of Sarimner and the pig being sacred in the Asatro. Our word that we now call chrismas "jul" is a word from the vikings and is atleast 1100 years old. 1000 years of christian faith hasn't changed it Many celebrations we (in sweden) have at christmas, comes from Asatron and Vikings and not from the christian faith as you would guess (i would defenetly). It's actually reverse, the church took many things from the vikings and their Asagudatro and made them into christian celibrations |

We in Australia don't time our days of summer, its summer every day, and although we don't have an endless magical pork supply we do have many important things supplied
by the church or government or 'local' volunteer organization. Why:...! just last night at my Volunteer Organization (bar) my drinking vessel, flowed continuesly with copious amounts of cool amber liquid, which I understand that the early people of northern europe once referred to as beer. Not once nor many a time, did I or any fellow member touch or put fluid into this vessel, it appeared to re-fill itself. I hope to experiment with this vessel once again tonite should my fair wife give me the permissions to continue my studies into this new science.. Have you had this happen in your tribe??? |

You're in Queensland man...down here where I am it can be Winter one day Summer the next.
The beer flows well in our vessels though and we have no trouble with results either but studies must also continue to provide comparison data for the boffins in Q |
