I remember there was this program that could remove files when you boot up or remove files even when they cannot ever be deleted. I then realized I didn't really need it lol.

I think it's ''MoveOnBoot'' ( ).

hmm, there is usually 2 parts to those kinds of files, one is easy to find and when you try to delet it it will automaticly reinstall itself from the secondary file.

if ya had 2 computers like i do, well i have 5 lol, ya could se the drive up as a slave and dont open anything on the drive and do a quick virus scan on it as a slave hdd and it will ususally let you delet it.

most of the time if it wont even let you delet it it could also mean that there are files being used out of the folder and windows wont let ya deleat anything that is curently being used.

does you anti virus support quarentien options, if it does try quarentiening the file b4 deleating it.

ive also ran into viruses that when ya try to deleat it it pops up a screen that says could not deleate XXXXX.DLL or some other file, but if ya are brave ya can look inside of the folder and cut and paste the XXXXX.dll that it said couldnt be deleated to ya desktop or other folder and deleate the folder that the .DLL was in and it will often let ya deleat the DLL then. there are many ways of doing it, i have done a lot of deleations manualy that the antivirus wont even detect.

Otherwise go to Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + DLT) and go to ''Processes'' and find any unusual processes. And then kill the process first and then delete the file.

Otherwise you can download HiJackThis and do a log and attach it here. From there on I can then tell what's bad and what's not.

Trilogy go to wwww.avast.com get the home version instill it free and it will do a bootup scan after it instill, if there is still a virus in your system it will ask what you like to do

1.) move to chest
2.) repair it
3.) delete it.

try to repair it first, if no good move to chest then. later see if it can be repair or deleted.

avast will backup system files and cover all areas your system may do on the internet it will not butt into game play ether. it don't use a lot of resource ether.

if you don't like to instill it they have a cleanup tool cover all virus as will.

1.) Free virus & worm removal tool

you can run it from desktop or safemod if you like.
Link: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html

2.) Home version total package free
Link: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

3.) avast! 4 Home Free Registration page
Link: http://www.avast.com/i_kat_207.php

after you instill the home version it will ask to do a bootup scan a alarm will go off if there is a virus in the system. bootup scan some case is better then safemod do to there no item running at all. HHD is still lock like if you did a scandisk as it bootup avast will do the same thing as it bootup scan for virus.

this can help find stuff like everythign that is running and where it originates from: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sexplorer.mspx

might help track it down / kill the process, so you can delete it.

try the unlocker that Scptt posted, its an awesome tool to have.

I believe you owe sb credit for posting that chief

To replace your task manager with that program just open it and go to options and click replace with task manager. You can undo it the same way. If you like awesome, powerfull but simple programs I suggest you check out thoes 2 websites I posted chief, they help me tons with the small amount of administration that I do and I also use them alot at home.

your right about that thanks sb

The more techie users should checkout Process Monitor, also from sysinternals. I use that TONS also..

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...ssmonitor.mspx

Procmon is an all in one for RegMon and FileMon..

I just drop these small utilities in my windows folder and call them from start > run when I need them..

It's cool how TechNet offer great programs, even when they're not from Microsoft; that way, you can tell the program is 100% good.

I don't know why I didn't think of this before.. but sometimes your anti virus will completly block access to files that have a virus or are in Quarantine. I know mcafee does this, I cannot do anything within the mcafee folder. Maybe uninstall your antivirus in safe mode, reboot in safe mode and then try and delete the file, then reinstall your anti virus.
