Linksys B Wireless Router

I'm having issues keeping constant wireless connection with my Linksys B Wireless Router (4 Ports). I've HP Pavilion laptop with built in wireless capability. ISP is SBC. Keeps connection for hours or so then just drops it. Have to reboot Router, Modem, and Laptop to restore connection. Works fine with hardwire connection. Any ideas?

Processor: Pen 4 3.4 Ghz
RAM: 384 MB
HD: 80 GB
GfxCard: ATI Mobility Radeon 9000IGP

hows the signal on the card?
pretty much the same thing happens to my mate who has wireless. maybe its a power saving option in contol panel.

Got no card. It has built in Wireless capability, i.e. needs no card.

I wouldn't go thru the trouble with wireless routers...just get some cat 5 cable,a few network cards, and run it thru the house..

with a hard wire the information travles alot faster too..

Hold everything! I think I've "sussed" the problem! It's the "flaming" microwave that's causing all the problem. Everytime it comes on, signal drops.

So, I've moved the DSL modem and wireless router to a different room and turned on the microwave and WALA! No signal drop.

So the conclusion is anything that emits EMFs (TV, Monitor, Microwave. etc.) influences the wireless connection. Steve, add this to your FAQs somewhere please!! Might save some poor soul's day.

ive never heard of a microwave messing with 2.4ghz frequency. the way to test and see if that is the case, would be to do a spectrum analysis. Ive had actually been dealing with the motorola canopy 900 systems, and cordless phones actually can interfere with the 906.0-924.0mhz range. Usually to fix the problem you just unplug the base station of the cordless phone while your wireless connection is going, and plug it back in and it picks a less traveled frequency.

iirc microwaves operate in the 2.4GHz band, same as bluetooth, cordess phones etc. pretty funny that the microwave does that

Yeah it was pretty funny when I figured it out. But ever since I've moved the router, everything is running hunky dory.

No card Steve, laptop is wireless enabled.

Well, being a QA guy, I made it a home project a few weekends back to test if it's microwave or my 2.4 Ghz sony telephone that was screwing my wireless network. Turned out that it was the microwave. I'm 100% sure. Ever since I've moved the router am not having any issues.

the reason i said is that the exact wireless standard you are using is a factor.

802.11b and 802.11g both run @ 2.4 GHz
802.11a runs at 5GHz so it would not be affected by the microwave

anyway the speed doesnt matter (i thought only 11b ran @ 2.4 so that's why asked if you were running at 11Mb/s.)

Well been playing AA wireless last couple of days and ping is around 30-70.

But 5ghz wavelength doesnt travel 'none line of sight' as well tho

have wireless here at home, seeing as i set it up i have the best signal the comp in the room below me gets less than 1/2 the speed i do at the very best. aparently i can't upgrade the arial on this router though

Eww ... I've PalmOne Treo 600 and love surfing on it. Same for my laptop. I don't want no wires!!!!!!!
