TWO BRITISH SOLDIERS DIE
Two British soldiers have been killed by a roadside bomb in southern Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has said.
They were travelling in a military vehicle five miles east of Shaibah, in Basra, when the device detonated.
Local sources said the vehicle was part of a convoy.
An MoD spokesman said: "We can confirm that two soldiers from Multi-National Division South-East died this morning at 11.30am from injuries sustained in a roadside bomb explosion in Basra province.
"They were travelling eight kilometres east of Shaibah in an armoured Land Rover."
The airbase at Shaibah, about 10 miles south-west of Basra, is the British logistics headquarters for Operation Telic.
No details of the soldiers' identities or regiments are being released unti next of kin have been informed.
Defence Secretary John Reid offered his sympathy and condolences to the families of the two service personnel.
"It is deeply tragic that they have been killed whilst carrying out their duty," he said.
The deaths bring the number of British military personnel killed in Iraq to 94 since hostilities began in March 2003.

i know that compared to the US killed in action numbers the other countries involved are low, but its not that often the british get fatalities (mainly because the are deployed outside of the main insurgency areas)
