New computer
Well my laptop just can't handle newer games (never bought it to be able to though ) so I've invested in a new computer, not a super computer by any means but it should handle a few games
Case: In-Win J649 ATX Midi Tower Black PSU: Silver Power SP-SS500, 500W Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR, P45, Socket-775 CPU: Intel Core™ 2 Quad Q9400 2,66GHz, Socket 775, 6MB, 1333MHz Memory: Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 4096MB CL5 (slower then the mobo handles but it's alot less money) Graphics: PowerColor Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express 2.0, DVI-I, HDMI Harddrive: Hitachi Deskstar P7K1000 500GB, 7200RPM,16MB Cache, SATA (getting more later on for a raid 1 or 10 setup ) And then just a simple dvd burner, thinking of getting a blueray whenever they get a drop in the price Last edited by SilentTrigger; 03-02-2010 at 12:18 PM. |

nice kit there ST. ive not had a new pc for ages, just been doing good upgrades heh. seems the newest stuff costs 5x more but for only 10% performance gain. i think getting the quad instead of i7 etc was a good choice can't really see that struggling with any game unless you've got a 30" monitor
what OS you sticking on it? |

Windows 7, use it on my CAD Workstation at work and it works great!
That work computer does actually have a Quad i7, and I just didn't see the gain. Sure it has 8 threads but there's not many programs using those 8 threads. Autodesk Inventor only use 4 of those 8 so 4 of those 8 is a pure waste of money in my opinion. Sure Windows 7 might be able to handle it but Windows it self has no need for it so I agree fully considering the price of the i7 Higher clockrate and cache but i think the 2.66 will be okey for a while atleast The "monitor" is my 40 (or was it a 42? can't remember) inch tv Been looking at this blu-ray rewriter: http://www.myce.com/review/LG-BH08LS...ntroduction-1/ but it's a bit too pricy at this time Olso slightly blame G.I.JOE for this purchase, he posted the specs of this new alienware laptop |

Hope Microsoft lowers the price for Windows 7, so alott of people can get windows 7. I think why they made it so pricey is because they lost money on Windows Vista (YUCK!!!), but thats just my opinion.

5770 sounds really nice... See what you get on that with Crysis.
Nice specs, I agree with JET also, but you may be able to get away with that.

Nice build man. I don't think I will be building a new system for a few years.

I've been planning on getting a new mobo and cpu for a while, so I might consider a slight rebuild. Need bigger HD as well and I see 1TB's have dropped in price a lot so I may invest in one of those to keep me going for a good few years!
Nice build though I'd go for the quad over the i7 aswell. I know theres cheaper ones, but I could never justify spending £850 for the 3.3ghz extreme version. Stupid money. |

Seems like a nice build ST.
Exactly why I don't upgrade nearly as much. The only reason I needed to upgrade my graphics card last time was for Windows 7 and DX10 support. Otherwise i'd still be rocking the X1950XT happily.

I only upgraded by PC last year because XFX replaced my 7900GS AGP card with a 9800GT PCI Express card, so I needed a new mobo.
Don't play games that much anymore with school and having a wife anyway

Was thinking the same, but it was sheap and they assured it would work perfectly for that setup Might upgrade it in the near future though. But it will be compeeting with a laptop with a X1300 mobility 128mb graphicscard and a dualcore 1.86 GHz cpu hehe But I will keep this in mind and I do value your opinion unfortently I had also already payed for it with a generated C-card which makes it a hassale to change the order Well it's on its way now at last, will porbebly arrive at monday or the day after. Hopefully I'm at the headquarters those day as I told them to deliver it to the company I work for that way I will have it directly after work instead of having to pick it up at the post office Quote:
