to cut out a pic:

open pic

doubleclick on layer in layer palette to change it to layer 0

zoom right in on pic

use lasso tool to go round edge of pic (i do this in lots of small areas) press delete to remove background (shows as grey/white checkers = transparent)

note
you may need to change image size of pic to fit in sig

then select layer
edit-copy merged
then open sig
new layer
edit-paste
click on move tool
move pic to where ya want it on sig

thats the basics but there are better ways of getting a clearer cut out

hope this helps

A far easier way would be to use your wand tool, set the tolerance to 1 and select the white area. This should select every thing but the leaves and letters. Then go to select>select inverse. That should select everything but the white background. Then go edit copy, open your other background and go edit paste.
