New Video card.

I am so stoked this next week (probably Wed-Thurs) I am going to get a new ATi X1950 Pro for my computer. I am so looking forward to the upgrade. I have been using this same old Geforce FX 5600 for around 4 years now.

I am just worried that I am going to have to go and buy a new power supply to support it. I hear that it sucks power like no other.

I wouldn't be worried to much about the wattage of your power supply but if it's got a PCI-x16 power adapter. A good quality 400ish watt should work.

is there a crossfire? option

Like most current 3D cards, the Radeon X1950 Pro requires a connection to your PC's power supply (PSU)

Yah it has crossfire. Looks like it works ok with a 400W PSU but I hear that it probably won`t perform like it should unless it has around 550W PSU

whats your system specs? if its as old as the video card you upgraded from then the card will be bottlenecked by your ram, mobo, and processor, thus wont perform as good as it should.

My computer is :
AMD ATHLON XP 2800+
1.5 GB PC3200 DDR
400 W PSU
ASUS A7N8X-X with AGP 8X
Radeon X1950PRO

I doubt that it is going to bottlekneck the card because Ati knows that amd stopped making NORMAL 1 core processors and that AGP motherboards can only support a certain speed of processors.

Sweet, I was thinking of going with an Nvidia because I heard that the Ati drivers had problems. So far no prob here. I wish that I had a stronger PSU though.

yeah the newer card runs DDR2 and the mobo runs DDR, the card memory is faster than the system so it will have a bottleneck getting graphics into its memory. so it will be running slower than it realy can.

once out of college i would suggest upgrading the whole system. right now it should run COD4 and Crysis at some low specs but playable frames. running an AGP mobo 1-2 years from now and expecting an upgrade to make a real improvement will be wishfull thinking. it was the same when AGP was the top dog and old video cards were PCI slot right with the ethernet and modem..

Yeah NFS runs fine. Just not on max...

Although I found that the latest drivers cause problems with all the games I have....seems like Ati has screwed something up on the Catalyst.
