Virtual Memory

After installing photo shop 7.0 my computer's virtual memory dropped tremendously. Now when i try to run photo shop 7.0 my computer slows down and sounds like it is almost grinding at the harddrive. Is there any way to raise my virtual memory and if there is will this help me run photo shop 7.0 more smoothly?

Thanks.

well, first off, uninstall any programs that you think you won't use, or you don't use.

Not really. I can run it on my old 700MHZ Celeron HP with only 64mb of ram.

Maybe you want to get more RAM?

First have you checked to see if you have any leaches? Some program on your machine is draining your memory. 512 is plenty of RAM. Hit CTRL-alt-delete, then go to processes. It should show you all of the programs running, now take a look at the right hand side, that is your memory monitor. Can you see a program taking up more than 20,000k? Try starting photoshop up and see how much it is running. If your trying to run Jops and Photoshop at the same time that may drain it, but it still should work.

Hmm ie only takes 18,000 here. Ok, ummmm. Try looking for cheif's Adware and Spyware remover. I don't think there is much you can do. Unless there is something taking up all of the space it should work fine.

I just looked at something and it said that defragging may help.
Quote:
Try deleting the page file (or setting it to 0 min and max), then defragmenting the hard disk, afterwards resetting the page file to your preferred settings.

Here's why;
After you have defragged, all of your available free space will be a single contiguous chunk. If you create a fixed sized page file (min and max the same, it will sit as a single allocated file in the new defragmented space. If it is larger than your available physical RAM, there will be plenty of space for all operations.

However (there's always a however), this could be down to resource-hungry applications not releasing resources once they've finished with them. Rebooting clears the swap file, hence the issue goes away. There's really not much that can be done about this except to track down which are the leaky apps and try to use alternatives, or else use these apps only when necessary.

so in virtual memory the first step is to set it to 'no pageing file' or to set the intial size and maxium size to 0 and 0?
Then defrag and reset it?

use run near start button type in msconfig hit inter now go to "Start up tab" look at the list (take a snapshot of it and post it into the forum we can look it over and tell you what to uncheck in it, this will free up your system startup and lease b/s in Virtual Memory be running. a lot of extra come with some programs that always running in the back ground that is really not needed sample Icq, Quick time, and other be running around the clock they should only be running when you need to use them. its these and other take up your Virtual Memory. clear some of them up. only do the one you don't like to be running, let us see what you got in it before you disable them ok.

it always best if you know a tech support who knows your system to tell you what you can disable in there is not we can try to help you out. all so run a anti-spyware/adware program to remove any bug that maybe there will be a great help to you.

you could check to see if you have any viruses and ad-aware, spyware in your system they do slow your connection speed and down and eat up a lot of your system memory's ADSL it download faster and upload faster only one thing your can get a lot of trash all so.

1.) home of Spybot-S&D
2.) X-Cleaner
3.) Home Ad-aware
4.) wilderssecurity.com/forum-tech_support
5.) HiJackthis Tool to use in the Wilderssurity.com forum tech support

all items are free to use no change to get the fix's you need.
you can bit that you speed should be a bet faster all them ads aware crap is gone you see that your speed is better, and pages load up faster to boot. oh they all can tell you if you have a virus with the HiJackThis.exe .
