anyone know what this is?

it is on the side of the M4 in joint ops. I've seen it in real life but what exactly is it? I know it is some kind of mounting accessory...... I need to know because I might be able to use it in a mod I'm working on.......

Thanks!

I asked the same question back a while ago too.

It's an AN/PEQ - laser sight, I believe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/PEQ-2

In JO when you use your scope you see a red dot in the middle - if that's not the scope itself, I'd say it's the laser sight. Also, if another player's using that weapon, turn your NVGs on and you'll see a laser sight come out of the weapon (it even comes out of the M4 in DFX - and there's no laser sight attached to that game's M4 ).

And I used to think it was a pistol!

It's also in other games too like CoD4 and such.

You only see the laser come from other peoples' guns.

Quote:
The AN/PEQ-2 has two infrared laser emitters—one narrow beam used for aiming the rifle, and one wide beam used for illuminating targets, like a flashlight. The beams can only be seen through night vision goggles. Each beam can be zeroed independently, and the illuminator's radius is adjustable.
This thing you said, it's a power supply for the laser? I'm sure this is the actual laser sight and power supply itself.

Maybe KB can tell us more info. He's probably using something like this in Iraq right now.

How can the laser sight at the end provide "power" to the scope? I don't see any plugs/wires in that picture (unless Nova must've not modelled them or something).

no I think you are right chris. it is the leaser and the power supply.

me and my dad had a look at an M4 with a leaser sight at a outdoors store called Gander Mountain. I had a look thru the leaser sights and it did not have the mistery box at the end of the barral.

hehe, that leaser sight was pretty cool tho. me dad is wanting to get an m4 or ak47 for defance around the house. when you live a mile back into the woods you have to deal with wolf, cyotes, a bunch of wild dogs and such. I go walking in the deep woods every day and I'm only carrying a 22 cal semi auto rifle.

anyway. thanks m8s

I'd have to say that the red dot though is probably the scope and not the laser sight (not in real-life, but in the DF games specifically). Because the CAR15 had the same scope in BHD and that had no laser sight.

I just think the laser sight's just for extra visuals for the gun. Like said though, in DFX I do see laser sights coming from other peoples' M4s when NVGs are on.

It's for sure a PEQ, my guess a PEQ 14. It's an infrared laser for night ops.

its a case to hold the hand warmer in! one can't aim very good shacking looking through the scope of the weapon, so when they get a chance they take it out of the case start it up and hold it in their hands or some case place it under their jacket to warm up the body.

sorry no oil come with it

what better place one keep it then the weapon ready were it needed the most to be ready to use when the time calls for it, specially its like -20f

yeah the red dot in the scope is an actuall leaser and it does have a power supply. but it is not a leaser beam.

That would make sense. Most games that have similar things, you can only see the beam when you use nightvision.

CCO's "red dots" have a special filter on the end so that the internal laser sight does not give off a signature that Night Vision would pick up. Thus the reason you need a PEQ for night ops.
