Angry Loading mission from server

I have search everywhere and can not find the answer to my problems. Ok Heres the hardware.
2 dell deminsion 3000 2.4ghz 512mb 1 has 128 nvidia card one stock graphics Win XP Home SP2 on both .netgear wgt624v 3 router latest firmware upgrade. Now the problem
Land warrior and Taskforce dagger do the same thing so I know its a common problem .When I host a game I can see and join the game with the other pc but it will not go any further than the loading mission from server screen. On the host pc I can hit the home key and see the other player but thats as far as it goes. I have turned off both pc's firewalls and used a crossover cable to count out the router as the problem. I know BHD uses tcp/ip to play lan games as I can play with know problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction to sovle this problem .Thanks in advance

have you forwarded the udp port 17479 in your router to the computer hosting the game?

And for bhd you will have to use pinger to connect the second computer to it through novaworld.

You need to use the pinger tool for the comp thats joining, DFLW, TFD, and BHD wont allow you to join through Novaworld using the same IP.

http://www.novahq.net/?show=utilitie...et_file&id=167 DFLW

http://www.novahq.net/?show=utilitie...et_file&id=166 TFD

http://www.novahq.net/?show=utilitie...et_file&id=205 BHD

If you cannot connect when using pinger then its the port forwarding, and nobody else will be able to connect either. the loading mission seems to tell me port forwarding is correct, but i could be wrong there.

Thanks but I am not connecting to the internet. I am trying to connect LAN ONLY with the use of a crossover cable ...With the firewall turned off do you still need to use Port forwarding? I dunno and I am going bald LOL

your problem is most likely the fact you are not on the same network. Just because you plugged in a crossover cable does not mean that you are networked.. The cable is the first step.. The cable is your physical connection. You now need to move up the chain by giving your computers an ip address and subnet mask. Since this is computer to computer and you dont intend to leave the network you do not need a gateway, Both computers will need to be given an ip address and the same subnet mask. The reason you can plug a cable into a pc and a router is because the router has what is called a dhcp server. The dhcp server provides any computer connected to it an ip and subnet and whatever else it needs to send out. On one computer i would set the ip address to 192.168.0.2 and the other to 192.168.0.3 and use the subnet mask 255.255.255.252 for both.

If you have any questions/concerns dont hesitate to post back.

no need with a crossover cable. You can go pc to pc with one You only need a bridge with patch cables.

reading your post again.. when using the router you need to use the pinger tool and connect to the LAN ip. You will have to add this server manually. If you want to go without the router do i said above and use the pinger to connect to the LAN ip. The LAN ip being a 192.168. or a 10. or a 172.16

I'd prefer making a new thread than replying to one. Anyways, welcome.

Why make a new thread? its basically the same as the first poster...

Assuming the 2 computers on your network can already communicate with each other via the network (ie share files)

All you should have to do is on the one computer that will be the host, tell it to host on LAN and then set up the host.

On the computer joining the server, again select LAN and tell it to search... it should find the server.

Any fire walls on the hosting computer may need to be configured to allow the server to host and incoming traffic from the client.

hmm i never really got into hosting df2 but it should go accross the tcp protocol however it may be having a problem with that. I would try and turn on the ipx protocol and see if it will work. To try this follow these steps..

1. open control panel
2. If your in classic view double click network connections otherwaise you will see i believe network and internet. Then you can double click network connections.
3. Right click on your network adpator and select properties.
4. in the list on that screen see if you have the ipx protocol. If not click add
5. Select the ipx protocol, you may need a windows cd... i forget.
6. try to host after clicking ok on everything

I believe these steps are all that you need to do it. i forget the exact screens and i cant look since i do not run win xp no more. If you have further questions feel free to ask
