Radeons run way hotter than Geforce cards. I ran my friend's 9200 on my system to see if it would work better than my 5600 and it was way hot when I took it out. The 5600 was cold :0

RAM does give off heat, especially if you OC it. More juice=more heat. Serious OC'ers have heatsinks with fans blowing over them (just a heatsink doesn't do much...).

If you're just running a system with good ventilation and no OC, you don't need heatsinks and extra fans...but it's not like they cost that much. Besides, they look cool
