i got a call out to a dead comp today, a spare PSU was sent ahead earlier so i could just fit it.

i just a had a quick check of the back of the system and noticed something slightly odd.

the USB head from the keyboard cable was plugged into COM 1 (the 9 pin serial port on the back)!!!

as it turns out the comp booted fine for me so i didnt have to replace any parts, but technically a wasted call.

i asked the user is anyone had touched the cables "oh no, nothing has been unplugged"

hehe it's strange but the usb plug does fit quite well into over the pins on the serial connection, but you bet your ass the keyboard would not work! lol

Thats why dell is dell, heh they directly turn down customers like that, right from the comercial. Their audiance is people with knowlage (mostly bussnieses) (had one who worked with logistics at dell in logistics class at volvo, quite interesting, many goodies that i got to know)

yea will my aunt her system lockup so she thinking being smart to do something, not like a dummie would do? she hit the "Alt+Delete+Ctrl" normal this is not bad thing to do you press them keys and release them. will lets say she did not release till the first of many "Task Manger" started to popup like 200 of them. small greeny eye box's in th clock-area. rolf

i started to press "alt+F4" to close them out.

It's either business or slapping them. Personally, I'd rather the business. Plus, there are little things you can do. Like in Stevie's case, I'd probably hold a demonstration of how to use the USB plug correctly. It makes people feel really good about themselves, but also makes them think you're amazing and wonderful.

wait a sec, are you saying it was lawyers that managed to plug the USB into COM1, which lawfirm, i hope there batter at law then they are with computers, i wouldnt go there, theyd probably send an email to the defendant with all the case files and strategies

lol... i hated Verizon's DSL tech support .. i don't think they were really had tech support knowledge, i think they have like a data base and they search for the question or something ..... they sucked...but road runners tech support i think transfered your call to India...so yea...there good
