5th HD Failure in 2 Months

Yep...

Today makes the 5th HD failure for my laptop...thank God I have a flash drive for my files...but I came home to find yet another HD Failure. Lost it all.

In case you are wondering...

Inspirion 1000 (old)
256 MB RAM
40 GB HD
1.2 Ghz

Yes I have anti-virus and a firewall. Norton for both. Im tired of this $#&%*#%$&%$#$%$#$% windows XP ****. Bill Gates and MS can take their "Most realible OS and shove it.

I'm running Ubuntu now, which is a verison of Linux. I will not go back to Billy till I can figure out why this always happens...and its random. If I was to go by pattern it would be Oct 17th.

Any ideas?

was it running when you got to it or was it turn off at the time you found it broken? (HHD) that is?

there has Tobe something in commend with them all, don't think windows Xp would burn out a HHD never happen to me.

ether two things some other party got their hands on it and did something or a software running did it in.

not windows XP

i for one hate Norton some love it! but if scrip blocking is enable i found it to make error when programs exit out of or start them up.

i move away from Norton system been great, my aunt has it and i unstill it her system is running like new still.

My System Windows Xp Home SP2 Pent 4 3.06
2ea 40GB old as the hill still running and a new HHD 300GB

My Aunt same only ADM 2.8 80GB HHD never had trouble with ether one.

take it to a computer center have a tech look it over other wise the new HHD will too burn out as will.

can't blame Bill Gates any more he out of it all together reason he retire and working with his family doing thing for others.

a lot of time there is new bois updates as will as flash updates for HARD Driver as will, beside other flash updates for other hardware in your laptop did you even updated your taptop hardware any to run windows xp on it.

a note only beside to run at speed for ram is 512mb ram higher is even better

Have been using XP since 2002.. I've never had a hard drive die because of XP, and i've installed in on probably 2 or 3 dozen different computers. TBH, I don't have any windows problems at all. The only problems I have come across have been user created problems.

Sounds like a hardware issue to me.

If ubuntu lasts then stick with it..

See im not sure what it is...its the same hardware since I got it in June 05. Its a laptop so I couldn't really make any big changes to the hardware and I dont have the tools to do it anyways.

It only starting happening in September and occured 4 times in that month. 2 in the first two weeks...once in the middle and once in the end. Now it happend second week in October.

I have re-installed XP. Did the major update installed AVG instead of Norton and installed Ad-Aware (like before). I'm not seeing any issues yet...it just makes me wonder.

What h-drive (Model) are you using and it could be a battery problem. The battery can sometimes send to much power and short the h-drive out Kind of like a power supply problem.

If u like I have a prog called Data Eraser that wipes a harddrive clean to the point u have to do a low level format.I mean no data recovery whatsoever.Let me know if ya want it.What I'm pointing out is don't put yer harddrive in the trash cuz of a bug or any software problem try this first (got nothing to lose right?)

The hard drive a good or bad brand? Go to your local computer tech guy and ask him for a good brand. If your hard drive was still working but was kinda not going good and you had a good hard drive connected you could use the ''Files and Settings Transfer Wizard''. Never used it, never have to use it.

Hope everything's gonna resolve Erik.

Its the damntest thing. I went a while with the battery out of the laptop and ran it on power and when I have the battery and the power its happens. I did go all summer without the battery in and just power and never had and issue.

Is it possible for my battery to spike the power and fry the hd? I didn't think so.
