DFX - Review - Sniper's Perspective

Over all the game is great for gunners, however, the game definitely lacks the sophistication for a serious sniper. I'd call it a 7/10

Reach of Ammo
Usually, lack of zoom can be compensated by having ammo powerful enough to cover the distance but the game does not allow sniping for more than 650 meters.

Anyone can grab a sniper rifle and hit a still target at 500 meters but the true skill comes into play when someone can hit a sprinting target at 800+ meters, while also being on the run himself. This is where DFX seriouly lags behind its predecessors.

Ammo's Firing Trajectory
In the past NL made sure that Ammo's Firing Trajectory was present in the game. However, DFX seems to lack this capability. Bullets seems to travel on a linear path and disappear in mid air due to lack of firing reach.

AT4 (Rocket Launchers) also seem to disappear in mid air if they miss overhead flying choppers

Limited Sniper Rifles
Limiting the number of sniping rifles (M81 & M24) and was a good idea. This really lets the players concentrate and hone their skills with these rifles.

Although, including PSG would have given more versatility to the arsenal.

Maps for Sniping
DFX provids excellent maps with perfect sniping spots. However, lack of firing reach makes most unskilled snipers sitting ducks.

Presence of Vehicles
Presence of choppers, bikes and other moving vehicles provides excellent opportunity to snipers to not only practice their moving target skill but also elude straffing choppers or getting run over by a bike.

To conclude, the game does have great potential to lead another line of products, however, due to the problems pointed out above could turn off lot of players. Overall it's a great game which reminds me of good old Df2 and LW days.

P.S. I tested the game on two separate machines, ME with Pentium 3 933 Mhz processor, 383MB RAM, and GForce4X 64 MB Card; and XP laptop with Pentium 4, 2.3Ghz 520 MB RAM, and ATI 9800 VGA Card.

Right on however I don't think a sniper in real life could hit anyone running while they are on the run at 500M maybe there adding some realism but then why let ppl jump off building without dying?

Guess you don't know what a sniper is capable of.

Try shooting a target on the run 500 meters without a scope and a spotter with an m16a2.

I ordered it. I guess North Mississippi doesn't have much a NovaLogic following. We have two Game Stops. One in town and one out by the Mall. When I went to one in town, they had only heard of Black Hawk Down. They made it sound like DF:X was a cheap game because it they had it it would be in the $20.00 section. That kinda pissed me off. You know, the way kids say **** with attitude sometimes. Anyway, I had them call the Mall and they haven't heard of it either. I was pissed because NL has them on their site. I checked Walmart also, they didn't have it either. So I bought another new game called "First to Fight". A Marine Corps Game.

Then last night while talking to you on MSN I got on the Game Stop site and looked for availabiltiy in my area for DF:X. Says it's in route to the shop at the Mall only. I decided to order it from them. I bought the cheapest shipping package so I'll have it in 5-10 days.

Reason I bought it from them is so GS will see that their are gamers in this area interested in NL. So hopefully they'll send a bunch and sell them out. I've been spreading the word as much as possible.

The sniper is most effective in this game at the range of about 450m to 500m. This is because the SAW and other weapons can't reach the distance of 400m. So a gunner can blast all day at a sniper at 450m, without killing them. And a sniper can just pop off 1 shot and kill them. i don't know many times this has happened to me.

Well, I've been able to "hill dodge" and "hill hump" with M81.

Hopefully, there'll be a weapons range fix soon. Driving me crazy!!!!
