i think ive posted this every year lol

The story goes that lords of the manor used to give their servants the day after christmas off because they worked through christmas, the lords used to give their servant a box full of goodies as a gift. Hence the name boxing day.

boxing day is traditionally a sporting day in alot of countries, here we have the boxing day test, a 5 day cricket match at the MCG between Australia and a visiting country, the famous Sydney to Hobart starts boxing day, other countries have their sporting events...

I thought it was called Boxing day because you spend all your time clearing up torn and discarded toy/chocolate boxes.

Smile

It is also said that in 12th century England monks gave gifts of food and money to the poor or their region on the day after Christmas.

These gitfs and monies were handed out on the day following Christmas day hence Boxing day.

There is also and associaton with the term "being on the box" i.e. sick or ill and again the monks provided food and medicines from a box. This term is still used today in modern Britain.

Regards & Seasons greetings
