Question about setting up game in BHDTS
Hello,
I am trying to set up an online game for friends to join in that arent available LAN play. I have download and installed heartbeat dll and opened up my udp ports on my router. My server can be seen but no one can join. It keeps freezing up as my friends try to join. Any idea what Im doing wrong? |

make sure in your server settings that you do not have "Require Novaworld Login" checked if you are not running your server through the nova lobby.

Thanks, I went and looked and it is unchecked. I've looked at my firewall and router and just can't seem to figure it out. I don't remember it being this difficult to get up and going back in the day.

ok, try this:
in your BHD directory is a file called dfv.cfg. this is the game configuration for bhd(same as game.cfg for joint ops). you can open and save in notepad. find this part: // MULTIPLAYER mp_eula_accepted = 1 mpattrib = 14854 mp_gameport = 0 mp_vonport = 0 mp_usealtnwport = 0 join_password = "" host_password = "" team_password = "" change the mp_gameport to the port you assigned the host machine to in your router settings. see if that works. if that does not work, try this: // SYSTEM player_index = 0 preempt_pff = 0 whichbrowser = 0 country = "" msg = "" red_password = "" blue_password = "" yellow_password = "" violet_password = "" mp_verbose = 1 play_exit_credits = -1 mp_NoCharAbilities = 0 mp_NoCrossHairSpread = 0 mp_NoScopeDrift = 0 mp_NoWeaponRecoil= 0 mp_gpsicons = 0 mp_wind = 0 mp_DroppedWeaponDisappear = 0 mp_NoDropWeapons = 0 mp_NoRespawnWithPrimary = 0 mp_ServerGamePort = 0 mp_ClientGamePort = 0 AltLock = 1 AltLockType = 1 change the mp_ServerGamePort to the one assigned in your router. try each one separately. |

I tried both last night and neither one would work. I attempted to get on with one of my other computers and it does the same thing. The entire game will lock up and when I hit the esc key, I get a message saying " Can not connect to the selected Novaworld server".
Aside from trying what you suggested , I have set my router port to 17479 on both tcp/udp, and turned my firewall completely off. My host computer has the novaheartbeat dll installed and in which case, I am curious. Since I have the heartbeat file installed, has the necessary ports changed because novalogic isn't around anymore? or are there additional ports that need to be opened? I greatly appreciate your help in trying to resolving this issue. |

i have never used the heartbeat, so i cannot say if there is something else there blocking access.
also, make sure the windows defender firewall is allowing traffic to and from your host machine. other than that, try uninstalling the heartbeat dll and run your server without it. |

The heartbeat does not affect the ports or connections. It just sends a msg to the alt lobbies every 30 seconds or so. Also does not affect the official NW lobbies or anything. It is completely passive.
You can use this web tool to try and ping your server externally. If the ports and router are configured correctly you'll get a response with some info about the game. If there is a problem with your ports or a firewall blocking access it won't be able to connect and you'll get a STATUS: OFFLINE message. Select Black Hawk Down, enter the IP:Port like 207.178.209.215:17479 http://nw.novahq.net/nova/ping
