Pirates! BOOM!!!
Heh was away to go see Götheborg (which is a copy of the original east indie mechant ship that was trading with china in 1700) the last week and took some pictures with my mobile phone (hense the quality, didn't have my real camera with me on the trip ). Here's one of the cannons:
http://www.vko.se/images/can.jpg The original had 30 of these but the replica only got 9. The outsides of the ship and some of the inside ware made exactly as the old ship, but the cargo hold stores the electronics and the two engines producing 1100 HP. They tried to build it as the original but it was not allowed because of regulations. So they have alot of tech onboard but the sailing is still done as it was in the 1700s, there are only 20 professional crew members the rest are changed at almost all ports they enter and most don't know how it is to be on at sea and don't have much knowlage of what it takes of the crew. But they lerned pretty quickly Anyways heres a video shot outside jakarta a place called Batavia by the 1700 crew. Anyways they are using the cannons here, well they did in pretty much all ports, don't think they did it in Australia though. They have to get permissions from all countries before they use them. http://www.soic.se/gotheborgsexpedit...0c51cd80007547 If you ware wondering about the title regarding the pirates, its because these cannons ware originally used agains priates and attackers. This they they had a military escort as they didn't think it would be a vice thing to use them against attackers, I bet they would **** their pants if they ware to fire those 9 cannons scaring away modern pirates Forgot to say why this ship was rebuilt as a replica. The original ship went down near gothenburg (göteborg) as a result of storm and I guess a pilot that did not do his job navigating there, but I don't know if it was the pilots fault or not. And the replica was built to honor the trade between Sweden and China that took place during 1700 and onwords and a symbol for the modern trade to keep it alive. Another video where they are lovering the mast to get under a bridge in China: http://www.soic.se/gotheborgsexpedit...0c51cd80007564 Doing some quick repair work out at sea: http://www.soic.se/gotheborgsexpedit...e176b280005000 Sorry but I love these types of ships and always been fasinated by them Last edited by SilentTrigger; 07-17-2007 at 02:32 PM. |
