Installing a new graphics card
hey guys, need a little help here
I have a new-ish graphics card, i have an ASUS P5GV-MX mobo, trying to install a powercolor radeon x550 PCI-e after i installed it, i tried to boot it up, the monitor didnt switch on, just the no signal message, and i have no idea why. i asked a friend about how to install it, and because i have onboard graphics, he said i had to disable it in the bios, i did that, then installed, but as you know, nothing happened. I've tried plugging in the monitor to the standard monitor port and the Gcard port, but still nothing. need some help , thanks

ok
step 1> un-instill all software/drivers to MOB graghic step 2> Cd in tray & close down computer. step 3> add-in new Graghic card and hookup monitor to Graghic card step 4> bootup (windows will search for driviers off the Cd as it bootup. Step 5> it may restart or not.....if not go into Cd instill the software for the Card after reboot system. last check see if there any new software or drivers for the card and check to see what Direct x its made for... i never had to fool with the graghic Bois my self can't help there. only can say i max the MB it normal was set to 64mb i change in bois to 256mb, that was my old system, getting a new card end of this month. PCIe 16x type building a whole new system a intel barebone kit

I have an ATI Radeon 9250 card that I installed in my Gateway, and a friend of mine told me that I should disable my onboard video card in my BIOS because it was taking up resources. When I disabled my onboard card, the new one quit working. I had to restart in safe mode and reactivate the onboard card before the ATI would work again.

hmm, thats strange cos when i removed the ATI, it booted up fine.
cheif are you saying i just need to uninstall drivers for on onboard to be disabled?, what happens when it starts up, will it choose the new card or the previous onboard ?. steve, there is no power cable, just the stuff on this site : http://www.powercolor.com/global/mai...tail.asp?id=63 but it isnt the EZ edition. Should i just uninstall my drivers, and choose disable in the device manager ?

When my built in VGA card stopped work all I did was disabled the driver in device manager and plugged in the new one and since it was PnP it started running. Should work for you too, is it is PnP.

Yeah. Plug and Play (PnP). Trust me I'm not an expert @ hardware either. Software is my forte
Just remember to disable to the current display device AFTER you've installed in the new one. Or you'll have to run Safe Mode. |
