Old times
Well was just over at DFArena and read old posts, somewhat emotional as thats where I started my "online life" in 1998 at Jackyls site, met many friends which I still have to this day, and many friendships that faded out as time passed. Thats also when I started playing DF1, the reason I came across Jackyls site was because I needed help with DF1. What memories. That was 11 years ago! Creepy. That place will always have a special place in my heart, just as this place will have!
There's so many memories in this community and so many friends! It's nice to see that most of the old timers are still here, so many memories! We've been a great comunity for a very long time, have many good friends here And there's always coming new faces and friends! It's fun to look back! Games will come and go but frendships persist! |

True dat, not quite 11 for me. I think I started in DF2 around 2000... so it has been 9 years for me. I have to agree, if anything saved NL until now it has been the awesome community.

i posted earlier in the year when someone mentioned some old sites. here's what i could remember
jackyls-arena snipershot fatandhairy deltaforcecenter df2hq landwarrior.net dfarena dfbarracks rak's maps (had a diff name?) dfcenter novaguild flagball.com miss-match.com panchoandheavy.com (also their site before that with a some other name) i think there was a df2hq and a deltaforcehq also. i barely remeber jackyl's site, and remeber he had the terrible disease muscular dystrophy if i recall correctly? he ended up too ill to carry on with the site glory days for the DF community back then, i was around in about 2000, just caught the end of df2 playing on line with 56k woop. i still remember my first ever game online with DFLW, i recreated the map a couple of years later and then discovered it was a stock map (i never played in stock servers). i dddin't post a great deal at DFArena, i guess you don't post at many other sites when you have your own, but it was a great community over there. Arctic Wolf still around at all? I beliebe Mike/BB was an active member over there? df3.net owned all! |

Never heard what happend to Jackyl, now I know something atleast, that it was an illness. Just remember that he moved away more and more. I started playign with 28.8k nice story about the dflw map, AW is still there from time to time. I remember that he came here too right? Once in a while. Yeah the crazy aussie was there (He aparently even confess to it ) Wasn't it fat and hairy, jackyls arena and pancho and heavy that later became dfarena? Have a faint memory of it. DFArena was also the place where I started (or jackyls arena or something simular) making sigs back in 1998 - 1999, after asking for one and never got it because they ware to busy. So I followed Boomer (Razor on Yaxay) which is a legend in sig making and any graphical work. And he gave me pointers and tips. Later became a official member of the DFA sig making team hehe. Those where the days where the limit was 22K (or if it was 28, think it was even lower from the beginning) and a size limit of 256X64 px. Remember it as if it was yesterday Last edited by SilentTrigger; 06-15-2009 at 11:53 AM. |
