Joseph S. Dean - aka GIJoeDean

Joseph S. Dean, 17, passed away Friday evening January 28, 2005 in a motorcycle accident in Mesa, AZ. He was born on September 18, 1987 in Mesa, AZ. He attended Taylor Junior High were he was a member of the Junior Honor Society and currently finishing his senior year at Mesa High School as an honor student. Joseph was employed at Sunsplash as the Senior Lifeguard during the summer of 2004 and was slotted to work again this summer as a supervisor. Joseph enjoyed rock climbing, hiking, camping, target shooting, working on computer graphics, and learning and absorbing all he could. He was the co-president and founder of the Mesa High Rock Climbing Club. He was also the co-founder of OBI Graphics (Opt Beyond Imagination). Joseph was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 59 and 253, where he earned his Eagle Rank in October 2002. Joseph had just signed as a delayed enlistment with the Marine Corp a week prior to his demise. He planned to support his country and earn his college education through his service with the Marine Corp. Joseph was very excited about this step into his future. Joseph is survived by his parents: Curtis and Millie Dean of Mesa; biological mother, Jean Huerena of Texas; brother, Thomas Gibson of Mesa; sisters: Laura Dean and Merry Gibson-Izaguirre of Mesa; nephew, Andrew Izaguirre of Mesa; maternal grandmother, Kay Hayes of Oregon; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from all over the US. Joseph was always there to help virtually anyone who needed encouragement, an ear to listen, a shoulder on which to cry, or even tutoring during lunch or after school. He was exceptional in his concern for all around him. Joseph was loved by so many, and a source of pride and pure joy to his parents and family. Joe leaves a hole in the lives of all who knew and loved him; but a wellspring of inspiration and memories as well. A visitation will be held on Thursday February 3, 2005 from 6-8:00 PM at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald in Mesa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 4, 2005 at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior to services at Meldrum Mortuary. A reception will immediately follow at the home of Curtis and Millie Dean. Memorial Scholarships of Honor of Joseph's life are currently being established at Mesa High School and Westwood High School. To help in this cause, please make donations to the Joseph Dean Memorial Fund, Arizona Federal Credit Union, account #449334.
