Domain Transfer

How long does it usually to transfer of Domain from one hosting to to another? The IP from the new hosting company works but URL still points to old Hosting?

I usually see DNS changes right away. Some ISP's are quicker at updating their dns than others..

A few things that may help:

In a command prompt type "ipconfig /flushdns", or reboot

Change your dns servers: http://www.opendns.com/

Edit your hosts file: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file

.com = Quick, wait around 20 min.

co.uk = Slow, wait around 24 hours.

Easy breakdown, .com is the quickets other are slower.

but it also depends on dns servers upstream from you - a friend of mine switched his domain to an other server...

I was able to view it with in hours, his took 2 days lol

Don't know about your domain registar, but one of the ones I use lets me adjust the time to live setting for my domains - thus I can set it to a smaller time frame, causing dns servers to update the records sooner (I think that is what it is called, been 3 years since I have done it lol)
