Summary of Charges Against Cheney Adviser

The five charges against I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby Jr. carry a total maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and $1.25 million in fines. A look at the charges as outlined in a 22-page indictment released Friday:

Count one. Obstruction of justice.

The grand jury charges that Libby did "knowingly and corruptly endeavor to influence, obstruct and impede the due administration of justice ... by misleading and deceiving the grand jury" about when and how he learned that covert operative Valerie Plame worked for the CIA. He is also accused of misleading the grand jury about how he disclosed that information to the media.

• Count two. False statement.

The grand jury charges that Libby "did knowingly and willfully make a materially false, fictitious and fraudulent statement" in an FBI investigation. Specifically, the indictment says Libby misled FBI agents in response to questions about a conversation with Tim Russert of NBC News in July 2003.

• Count three. False statement.

Libby is charged with misleading FBI agents about his July 2003 conversation with another reporter, Matt Cooper of Time Magazine.

• Count four. Perjury.

After taking an oath to testify truthfully, Libby knowingly made a "false material declaration" about his conversation with Russert, the grand jury alleges.

• Count five. Perjury

Also under oath, Libby is accused of knowingly making a "false material declaration" about his conversation with Cooper.

will some times a person say to much and later they reallize what they did and try to make it look like they did not do it.

poor guy he never known they would double check his story's out.

will he will get what is due to him.

But the president and Cheney emphasised that guilt had not yet been proven.

Cheney said Libby would fight the charges and had only accepted his resignation with "deep regret".

Libby said in a statement that he had done nothing wrong.

think most of the time a person resignation? means there is something not right here at all. will we will see what happens as the day go by.

I think this is going to be a difficult time for President Bush as a result of this investigation.

Difficult is if you put very lightly. Going to disturb lot of sleeping hornets. Mr Vice President should better be ready too. Doing his thing in the background and then making frequent hospital trips wont help him on this one!

No one plays with the national security. No one! Libbiy will come around too ... sooner or later.

will i think both spoke out and said thing not knowing they did it, like school kids with some hot girl they say anything to make them selves look good to them good looking female reporters.

but again them reporters should known better too not to release it them and their News network. they know it was off limit to start with. release a Undercover CIA name to the public is off limited totally. you got to be brain dead not to know it was off limit to start with.
