Best way to clean inside of a keyboard.

Made a green tea oppsie couple of weeks back. Keyboard works fine after drying but some keypad keys are had to press. Any suggestions?

I've already tried giving it a bath, applying KGfr brand acid rinse, and other permutations of home cocktails. Only thing I've not tried is oven cleaner!

hmm gonna be difficult i think.

first thing i would do is remove the keyboard, easier said than done sometimes, but generally helps if you download the service manual. there is usually individual sections detailing how to remove specific parts. they dont make it too difficult because to access any of the motherboard you have to take the keyboard off anyway.

sometimes the keyboard is attached with a screw or 2 from the underside, and depending on brand, there is a keyboard symbol next to the hole

come to think of it....... do you have a mack?? that looks pretty easy and plenty guides on the net, just be careful of the ribbon cables, they can break quite easily.

then get your qtips out and poke about best you can on the stuck keys.

other than that, becasue they are so fiddly and a pain to reattach keys if you take 'em off, it's best just to buy a replacement k/b :/


i think in theory you could leave it in a bowl of water but i'd let it dry for a week before plugging it back in hehehe

Not if you let it dry before using it...

Yeah I'm using USB keyboard with works with Windows, Mac, Linux, whatever. I might give it a try tomorrow.

for some reason i assumed it was for a laptop

i remove the screw to plastic cover and the elec-broad inside i set to one side. then wash the plastic cover in the sink, let dry for a day before putting it together again.

place the screw's into small bowl so you will not lose them, when putting back together keyboard housing (cover) lay a bed-sheet on the floor or table top! so if the screw's pop lose as you try to place them back into the hole they will not be lost on the floor.

most of the time there be a plastic sheet above the elect-keyboard between the keys underside, inside so if there any coffee or drinks get spoil onto it safe guarded it from shorting out, this you can be clean in the sink ask will.

try to keep inmind were everything go back into, most of time it real easy to put it back together

been using the same key-broad for pass 7plus years now, been doing me great

and if you have a piece left after your all done, you messed up somewhere like I would most likely do lol

2-parts of the key broad cover front/back side
1-plastic sheet inside
1-Elect keybroad inside

i don't remove the keys at all in the front cover you only be asking for trouble were they all go back in place.

Unless you've got a spare keyboard to look at or something, I'd remove a few keys at a time and clean it just incase you forget where which key goes, etc.

And same, I thought wetting a keyboard would screw it up for good. :/

i find it funny that i can type almost all the time without looking at the key board but i wouldn't be able to put all the keys back in the right spots lol

try to look at the key as you type.

sample take a paper work print it out and then try to type it into a ducument.

like a page from a news paper try to type it in and type it up ether in MS-Word or something.

type something by feel is really good, but try to do it by looking at the keys as you type it up! i some time i find it even harder to do.

10 years of PCs also made me a touch typer lol. And same, I wouldn't remember where all the keys go by heart lol. But you see, if I put a few keys in at a time, I'll be able to find out in my heart if they're right or not. You just get that "instinct".

I can't seem to type as well with my eyes closed, but staring at the screen and typing is a lot better.

It's all muscle memory.

yea it is harder because then i have to think where the keys are actually at lol
