FireFox

ok this just randomly happened, my computer froze up on me, like it does every once in a while, i restarted it and opened up my FireFox, and all my favorites were gone, it won't let me add anything to my favorites either, but when i do try to add it, it shows all my folders there for my favorites, but i cant find them...

BAH!

unstall all windows xp updates in "add & remove"
you may have to reboot as you unstall some of the updates this is normal. keep removing the updates, when all remove follow the steps below

then put in your WIndows Xp SP2 Cd into the DVD/CD tray

you can do this from Desktop without being in Safe-mod or reboot system to run from the CD ether.

disable all items that don't need to be running Anti-virus/firewall/anti-ad-ware and anything other close them out. it would make it run faster.

1.) OK have Windows Xp Family Cd in the tray.
2.) Start>Run> type in: CMD hit enter (dos prompt should come up).
3.) type in: SFC /PURGECHACHE
4.) after next line type in: SFC /SCANNOW

A small box should come up and start to look for windows files to see if any need to be replace, this can take a long time, if there are a lot of files bad or not listed it will replace back into system from the Windows Xp Cd.

taken me a 1hr and 30min to finish scanning

5.) when all is done with Type in: Exit hit the enter key thats it.

thank god my system is running normal again.

Microsoft Tech support work hour's on Saturday 9am-3pm i got one from the country of India. M-F normal hours.

their tech-support Number USA: 1-866-234-6020
you must have the real deal!! they will ask info on your system listing to check it.
you save all your software and games you had install! without loosing a thing, after reboot system then update your windows online

check out http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks

One of the possible reasons for not being able to save book marks is because of the file that stores the book marks being marked as read only.

Firefox also makes up to 5 backups of the user data, the above link has instructions on how to restore from a back up.

I disagree with chiefs suggestion about removing updates at this point - this is a firefox issue. Use up all the suggestions that firefox support has before resorting to more drastic actions.

in the entire time of me running xp I have never had to un-install updates to get something to work (I got xp with in a month of it coming out).

Also, the SFC command replaces system files - Firefox is not a system application, so that won't even touch the firefox issue.

I would only do a reformat if you feel its time to do it, as
I suspect the issue can be resolved with out that action. Though, there is no doubt that a computer runs better after a fresh reformat
