It's changed since my last post. Now it's $2.49!!
I'm not sure how they do this pricing thing. It's this price here in Carson City, NV, but when I was in Salt Lake City, Utah yesterday (about 500 miles east) it was 'only' $2.25. Wonder how we got so lucky... |

$2.21 at the gas station by my house. That is 15c more than last week when I filled my car up! That's for the low unleaded.
$2.38 or something for deisel.

All city buses here in my town run on ethanol, problem with this now is that there isnt enough of this produced at the moment to even consider it to be global, but to convert big parts of the world to ethanol powered if the production of ethanol increses drasticly. This would also probebly going to be alot cheaper as it can be manufacured without oil. The diesel here in Sweden is about 2% cheaper compared to ethanol but thats when the market is extreemly low. Theres also methanol powered cars. Hell there ware even two Americans that used oil from mcdonalds and ofter types of fast food resurants to power their car. They already exist, its just that some needs to take the step towards a global alternate fuel. |

Unless Silent...they could fuel the car by having something at home.
You can create hydrogen by sticking electricity in water... if they could make an efficent machine that could do that.... Also...solar power!!! We should all have an oil refinery in our back yard!

I read some interesting stuff in motortrend that talked about the reality of Hydrogen cars. Soonest I hear they will come out with them is 2007.
And don't give me all the bull about how hydrogen is explosive and that. Gas was proven more volitile!

Holy !@$##$% @#$! Stevie, that's $8.33 a gallon!!! Good God, that's huge...
Silent, our buses in Oklahoma City all run on natural gas, but alternatives wasn't necessarily what I was talking about. The big businessmen in America wouldn't allow gasoline to go away...but that's not the point. There are much more efficient ways to have gasoline engines that can still perform well, but consume far less gasoline than even the Japanese cars. At that kind of efficiency, we could run totally on American oil without fear of running out due to huge consumption. Unfortunately, the inventors of said engines can't get the funding due to lack of interest in this area. I think that if there was a government contest for this sort of thing, more entities would be willing to fund the projects. |

It is now time that some serious research went into what your talking about Dr Bullet. We will all need vehicles that are much more efficient in their consumption of fuel or we may face a global energy crisis at some future date.

What I want to know is if the price per barrel of crude oil drops in future, will they pass the lower price on to us?

I think we can still complain...as most are aware, our economy isn't so hot right now, and neither are our paychecks. After all the taxes and bills, one can hardly pay for a tank of gas, much less have any left over for saving or spending. And that reminds me of another thing, slightly unrelated, but what's a forum if you can't get off topic? The government doesn't want us to just "hide our money in a jar" as it were, yet they tax us if we: spend it, save it, or invest it. So what exactly does the government want us to do? They're gonna tax all our money away if we do anything other than hide it in a jar. And another thing, for most people, if they work over time, they actually make less money because they get taxed more, so people don't want to work more, in fact, they work less. In a foundering economy like ours, where is the sense in this? <*/rant> |

Yeah there are several methods but it wont give you any 300 horses under the hood, and a person with a 300 horses car running on gas wont switch to something that would produce a mear 50 horses. Unless gas as we knew it was a past. |

I heard that hydrogen is supposed to provide pretty good horse power. Depends on how you use it.
I doubt solar powered cars have much of a future but if they could design them into the car and make the car look nice it would at least on a hybrid. Think about how much most cars sit in the sun all day. Sucks for people in a parking garage though.

But that's the thing. When do you actually use those 300 horses? At getting off the line. When you're cruising, you're using a fraction of that. Certain alternatives (which I cannot discuss ) would allow you to accelerate just as fast as if you had that 300 horse car, yet use a small amount of gas on acceleration and cruise. Now, of course, it won't be the same thing, but those of us who choose to have the bigger, more fuel consuming vehicles will pay the price for it. But really, the majority of people really don't accelerate that fast, nor do they use anywhere near the kind of horsepower their vehicles have.
