DFX PC-Game Freeze

I was having a problem, now I’m having a big problem.

My DFX would, at times, freeze or my system would blue screen and reboot.

I thought it was the video card, so I bought a new one. Now my machine freezes completely when ever I play...multi or single player. Goes along fine and then…I have to hold in the switch to kill the system. No ctl, alt, del nothing.

Any ideas?

Here is the breakdown:
Asus A8V mobo
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1800MHz (1.8)
2 gigs RAM
EVGA gForce 6200 256 mb (was a MSI gforce 64mb)
160 gig SATA HD
KDS RAD5 monitor (LCD)
(edited) OS: XP Pro SP3

My DFX file size is 558,863 KB; I have downloaded it three times from Nova.

disable: steps

* auto reboot
go to> Start> Control Panel> System> advanced tap> Start up & recovery "Settings"> unchecked automatically restart then click-on OK

* back out to the Driver tab on top>in center you see "drivers sign" click-on "drivers signing" check * warn-Prompt me each time to choose an action click-on OK

windows don't know how to handle new release drivers and may block them from being install, and if windows don't know how to handle some games it will auto-reboot on you as will. this is the norm for windows to act up.

re-install the video card after you made the changes above. and OK all drivers for your new video card!

PS> in the booklet it says to UN-install old video card software and drivers!! i hope you did it before install new card in. even if it the video chipset on your MOB un-stall drivers for it....

William,

Thanks for the quick reply and the direction.

I did what you said with reboot and Hardware>Driver Signing>Warn.

I just scrubbed my HD and reinstalled a fresh XP Pro w/ the new video so there should not be any old drivers, right? (No onboard video).

So I’ll uninstall card and re-install…hope it works, I’ll let you know.

Actually I do not have any other PC games, this is it.

But the system is working flawlessly except for that. I have just finished loading all of the software. Email, Office, all the "stuff".

I just unplugged an audio cable from my DVD drive that I wasn't sure where it went. It however needs no cable for audio. I thought that was the conflict.

I played a single player game with success, the first time it worked do I thought I had discovered the problem. But when I went online I froze up again, just now.

I went from a AGP VC to a PCI card, the mobo manuel tells me I can enable disable things but does not get into specifics as to what they enble or disable and I'm just not THAT tech savy. I'll have to do some homework.

Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks Chrispy.

If you can mate, try to get another game on your computer and test it out just to see if it's the game screwing up or your comp.

I finally found the problem.

Need more power to run the 256mb video card. Put the old 64mb back in and things worked again.

You can find out why I was getting the error message at http://www.bcu.megasportal.co.uk

Thanks, it didn't.

The PSU is great, glad I bought it - will need it.

Bad graphics card, same symptoms, dead game/PC.

Sent it back and ordered a new one. I will post after new install!!!

Sorry I haven’t been back to update.

Installed the new video card and it works great, my system is functioning again.

It was definitely a bad video card!

Now DFX is alive and well and I can really enjoy the coding and all the effects…what a great game.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this, your feedback was very helpful and appreciated. Hope to see you online.
